I'm roughly the same height as Tom Cruise so it bugs me constantly in every Tom Cruise movie to see things made so short for him and the lengths they go to make him appear taller.
I was just watching Minority Report and there are two instances where he is clearly standing on a box and two where he is standing next to things to intentionally make him look taller because the set designers made them tiny (a short mailbox, for one).
I notice this a lot in movies with Shaq - especially in cars. But it's a bit more... obvious? when it's your own height.

Tom Cruise is 5'7 which is a few inches shorter than the average male in the US. He's had one hell of a career though for many years an easy go-to joke was to pick on his height and his tendnecy to wear lifts in films. Do you think being a tad short has hindered his career and the roles he could rake? What about Michael J. Fox, he's 5'4 and still had a pretty incredible career. One might think being a short male would remove you from romantic lead roles or action lead roles but is tbat true? What about for actors who are far taller than average such as a Liam Neeson who is 6'4 or a Vince Vaughn who is 6'5. Has their careers been hindered by being way too tall? And what about actresses? There's the actress that played Lady Brienne on Game of Thrones who is 6'3 and the lead actress from Tenet is 6'2. Kinda difficult to imagine either getting loads of romantic roles considering most likely they would tower over their male co-star. Thoughts?
Could anyone ever expect to see a 5'3 male starring as an action lead and being taken seriously? Is the likes of a Kevin Hart a trailblazer? He's 5'3 and has transitioned from his height being a major point of his persona. Almost like you disregard it.
Loads of actors throughout the industry wear lifts. Even supposedly Brad Pitt wears them despite being 5'11 though who knows how accurate is any actor's reported height.

It used to be because of equipment. Shorter actors were easier to shoot. Harrison Ford broke the glass ceiling for tall actors. He even talks today about how he was turned down for roles cause he was too tall. Most actresses were short, so it was hard to shoot scenes with them. But now, with digital film and better cameras, it's less of an issue.

Statistically men over 6' tall make a million dollars more over the course of a lifetime when compared to men under 6' tall. This doesnt mean short people cant be successful millionaires. It just means short men have one extra obstacle they have to be aware of in order to overcome it or work around it. Kevin Hart is actually a great example. He uses his height as a big part of his stand-up comedy. He wouldn't be able to do this if he wasn't already self-aware enough to acknowledge it as a part of his identity and a part of how the audience perceives him.
