To my eye, as a photographer, it’s a very dark blue. But I have heard others describe it as black. Color is subjective and it’s hard to find any two people that will agree on a color. Watches do have a 14 day return policy if you don’t like the color.

Wife has used this color for a year (Series 8). At night or from far, looks completely black. During the day or up close, looks like a dark navy blue. IMO, I think the pic above is darker than what it looks like in real life. This year we were debating which color to go with and she switched from Midnight Aluminum to Stainless Steel. Just because it'll match more outfits for her. We'll see how things go when we get it next week!

Hey so I’m looking at swapping my damaged AW8 for AW9. I currently have the Starlight aluminium but think I want something darker this time. I’d love the black stainless steel but out of my budget so was thinking the midnight aluminium however it looks very blue/navy on the Apple site. I treated myself to a new apple watch, it was delivered last night.
My online order as well as the watches packaging say the band is 'midnight', which looks black online; however, the band i received is a dark blue. I think I received the 'storm blue' band instead.
The apple call center is closed on Sundays, so i thought I'd ask here.
Did i receive the wrong band or is 'midnight' really a navy blue?

Midnight is really a very dark blue color. I have a Midnight case and in some conditions it looks black and sometimes it’s dark blue. Steve Jobs would kill those who are responsible for the renders of the products these days, cause the color accuracy is like zero. Things online look waaaay different than in reality.

People do see colors differently. It's subtle for sure, but what I saw in some lighting is a very dark navy. Your eyes don't have to agree with mine. Some videos on YouTube also suggest there is some dark navy going on in a Midnight watch.
