Developer Rockstar finds further ways to improve the Red Dead Redemption console experience for Switch 2, PS5 and Xbox Series consoles in a brand new 2025 release. Via this separate native app for each system, we're getting much closer to PC's top settings - though even today, cutbacks are still necessary in grass LODs and shadows on PS5. Meanwhile the Switch 2 release offers arguably the most substantial improvement over what came before in the 2023 OG Switch version, with 60fps, DLSS and even mouse controls added to the equation. In turn Tom tests each version - with even a look at the iPhone version later in the review.
Hey everyone, just wanted to make a quick PSA because this one hit me hard and I don’t want anyone else dealing with the same mess.
Earlier today, someone got into my Microsoft/Xbox account and bought Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Cross-Gen Bundle + Content Pack 1 (about $72 total). Before I even realized what was happening, they redeemed everything.
I checked my order history and saw the gift codes marked as “used.” No refund option. No undoing it
How it happened
I’m still not 100% sure how they got in. I didn’t click anything suspicious recently, but it’s clear someone managed to access my account long enough to:
Buy games
Redeem the gifts
Leave no trace
I only noticed because I got the emailed receipts.
What I did next
If this happens to you, here’s what to do IMMEDIATELY:
-
Hit “Log out everywhere” on your Microsoft account
-
Change your password
-
Turn on passkey/2FA (I set mine so you literally can’t log in without my phone now)
Why I’m posting this
’Tis the season for hacks, phishing attempts, and compromised accounts. If this happened to me — with a pretty solid password — it can happen to anyone.
Please:
Enable two-step verification
Use the Microsoft Authenticator app or a passkey
Don’t store your card if you don’t need to
Check your order history regularly
Seriously… protect yourselves. This one blindsided me.
Stay safe out there, and double-check your security settings.
EDIT: Just as a heads up, this was an old account that I mostly forgot about but still had my CC attached to it. Normally I set up 2FA for everything but this was an old account that slipped through the cracks of the past.
EDIT 2: I'll take all of the heat and hate if it means some people out there double check and increase their security settings. All I wanted to do was be a cautionary tale for others.
