How often do I need to change my Yahoo password?
What happens after you change your password?
What can I do if my Yahoo account was hacked?
Within the last year I had forgotten the password to my very first email account I’ve ever created. Therefore I have many accounts attached to it, along with my phone contacts and other important information.
I went through the process of trying to reset my password and I also do not have access to my old phone number that I initially attached it to. From there the site told me I would have to call premium customer care and to have my credit card information ready to call….
I really do not want to have to pay to have access to MY OWN email account information. Is there a way I can reset my password without doing so? And if anyone has paid to reset theirs; how much did it cost?
Hi L. C. Fish,
Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.
I understand that you're having issues with Outlook. You are not able to sign in due to incorrect password with your Yahoo email address. Just a heads up that in regards to this kind of issue, our option is limited and we can only provide basic troubleshooting steps.
It seems that Yahoo needs to have an app specific password. It is a one time password that needs to be setup if you are using third party clients. Outlook application is a third party clients with Yahoo that's why it's not accepting your password. No worries, App specific password is only a one time password or a temporary password to setup your account and it's for your security and privacy that yahoo provides.
Here are the steps that you need to perform to get an app password:
- Open a browser and go to Yahoo mail and sign in your email account.
- Go to Account Info>Account Security.****Enter your account login information.
- Click Generate app password, click the email app, copy the password, and click Done.
- Go to Outlook and paste the password. You can simply press CTRL + V to paste the app password.
You can also check this link from Yahoo Generate and manage third-party app password.3
I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have other questions.

Sorry for the delay, but I failed to receive notification of your reply???
Thanks John. I hope it's that simple, but I just don't have time to do it now (holidays). Will try in the near future and let you know if it works. Perhaps should have told you that I have been using Outlook for 10-+ years and this just happened when I changed my Yahoo password to increase my security.
