I need some opinions on which of these streaming services are better. I'm wanting to mainly watch as many NFL games as possible. I watch other sports but I mainly keep up with the NFL. I had hulu live TV last year and I liked it, but I didn't have as many games or channels as I wanted. It seems YouTube TV is slightly cheaper as well. I haven't actually used it before but if they have a free trial, I'd give it a go. I also use Disney + for the kids & watch some of the Hulu shows. I might get rid of this if I choose youtube tv. Let me know your thoughts.

I tried Hulu Live. I like Youtube TV much better. Less buffering and unlimited dvr. They have a free trial.

For us it was not close. Much prefer YT TV.

I was curious if anyone has any experience with both of these services. Currently have Hulu live mainly for football season and some on demand programs. I was wondering how Youtube TV compared as it does appear to be a bit cheaper.

have Hulu with ads. Biggest complaint is it frequently cuts off the final minutes of shows - especially live broadcasts. They don't seem to care either. I've heard YouTube doesn't do this.

I like Hulu + Live TV because it includes ESPN+.

Tell me your pros and cons about YouTube Tv and Hulu Live Tv

I had Hulu live TV last year. Stuck with them for maybe 9 months. Can I say "fuck Hulu?" Yeah, their entire DVR function is perpetually in beta and they don't quality test any of their changes. On a regular basis, recordings we didn't finish in 1 sitting would start from the beginning when we tried to resume them another time. I'm talking start a show, watch part of it, turn the whole system and TV off, then pick up where we left off again later in the day. Then occasionally, a recording would just not work anymore, even if we initially started it without issue. Other recordings would work. It was unpredictable if we could watch our shows. The final straw was when they corrupted our entire DVR of recordings. A week of support promising they're working on it without a resolution, we cancelled. The other backwards limitation is the fact they use your IP address to determine if you're home or somewhere else. 10 years ago, that would be fine. But they use the IPv4 address. Humanity has run out of IPv4 addresses to hand out, so a lot of ISPs use CGNAT to accommodate this. It usually means your IP address changes often. For a lot of users, it results in Hulu telling you you're not at home when you are and you have to get in touch with support to fix this. For my In-laws, this started happening 2-3 times per day. The IP changes are an Internet provider issue, but the fact Hulu is so backwards in dealing with this is a huge strike against them. Also, their support team is the least capable of any company I've ever dealt with. The most they can do is "escalate" your issue and leave you hanging. There's no ticket number to your issue. They never follow up. They never let you know if they ever addressed your issue. They don't even know if anything you called or chatted about is a common problem. Then they want you to use their forums for support, which is littered with issues I've contacted support for multiple times, Hulu staff never responds to the forums, and issues remain problems for customers for years. YouTube TV is worlds better, but not without its own issues. I'll start with the good stuff in contrast to Hulu, but I'm not going to address everything good. First of all, support seems to be pretty responsive here on Reddit, even though it's not really an official avenue for support. The send feedback feature in the app seems to actually get looked at by support, but you'll never know - they don't respond. YouTube TV also uses your IP address for location, but they also use your phone's GPS when you open the mobile app. The phone app basically corrects your location over the ip address and you only need to do this once every 90 days. So if you use the app at least once every 3 months, a changing IP address should never be an issue. And if it is, you can still fix it with the app without needing to get a hold of support. The DVR for me is still an area of problems on YouTube TV, but not nearly as bad as Hulu. At least it works on YouTube TV. First, the DVR works completely differently than any other you'd use anywhere else. They completely reinvented what a DVR is and. It'll take some getting used to. You add shows or movies to your library and whenever they air, they record. That includes reruns, re-airings, etc. you cannot delete recordings either. Every stays there for 90 days then it's removed until it te-records. For TV shows, it's easy to get used to. For movies, you might forget you set something to record once months ago and wonder why it recorded again. You'd have to remove it from your library. The biggest annoyance for the DVR as a new customer is reruns. The Library (your DVR) will push older episodes to you to "catch up" and it's easy to get confused which is catch up vs recently recorded if you aren't paying attention. It helps to use the app or website to mark older seasons or episodes as watched, but it doesn't always work - old stuff still shows up sometimes. I've also had issues with "catch up" pushing video on demand content instead of recordings. VoD content has unskippable ads whereas recorded content can be fast forwarded. And if I watch a VoD episode because that's all that's available at the time, sometimes that will also be the default for a show even though there's a recorded version available. Also very rarely, sometimes shows don't remember where I left off and starts over. But this might have happened 2-3 times in the past 6+ months - it was a regular issue on Hulu. Another aspect YouTube TV does better is the user experience. Hulu is on demand first, live 2nd. So the default opening screen is like Netflix - a list of on demand content categorized by what they want to push towards you. It takes a few extra "clicks" to get to live TV. And navigating the guide for live TV is a chore. YouTube TV has more of a cable experience. Yes, the first screen is still tiles of recommendations, but something is playing in the background and easy to get to if that's what you want. I haven't quite figured out the algorithm for what's playing in the background. Sometimes it's what you last watched. Sometimes it's guessing what you might want to watch based on day, time of day, and watch history. YouTube has improved navigating the guide too. You can get to the guide at the channel you're currently on instead of starting at the top. And they just released a "previous channel" button to make it more like a cable experience. On Dand content is downplayed in YouTube TV but still accessible, in contrast to Hulu. The only other thing to point out is YouTube TV seems like the worse one for ads for on demand content. Many complain about Hulu, but I feel like YouTube has more ads. Which reminds me of another complaint about Hulu which might explain some of the complaints. Hulu basic has a reasonable amount of ads which you can pay extra to be ad-free. Hulu with Live TV adds extra content to on demand from the networks. What they don't tell you is they don't control the ads on this extra network content, or it seems they don't. Even if you pay extra to remove ads on on demand content, ads will still remain on "network exclusive" content that's not otherwise included with Hulu basic. And I found the amount of content included here to be huge. I call this false advertising, but whatever. You pay for ad-free but 75% of what's available is still riddled with ads. And what's worse is they don't have any way to distinguish ad-free vs with ads. It's like playing Russian roulette but with ads and instead of 1 bullet, only 1 chamber is empty. But its been about a year since I had Hulu, so maybe they changed something since my experience. But I hope this helps.

Hello, as we get into football season I'm looking at getting either Hulu Live TV or YouTube TV.

My biggest deciding factor is overall best picture quality.

I've done some research and can't really find a concrete answer.

I just dropped direct tv stream for YouTubeTV/Sunday ticket and the picture quality difference is very noticeable. Not enough for me personally to throw a fit about but direct tv is significantly better in picture quality no doubt.

In order DirecTV Stream Hulu YTTV Sling Now YTTV has almost caught Hulu but they are still way behind DirecTV Stream.

I recently switched from Hulu to YTTV. Mostly for two things. Better sports and Hulu kept buffering. I’ve cleared the cache. Restarted to try to see is it made a difference. No other app I use buffers. Since I’ve switched YTTV had never had a playability problem. I hate the interface. I could watch everything on demand with Hulu and shows didn’t expire. I’m curious to hear more opinions from people who have used both.

I just switched to YYTV because I get a huge discount and NFL season ticket for free. I’ve pretty much tried almost all of the various options taking advantage of whatever deals I can find. Not the easiest interface to navigate, but it is simple and intuitive. The one platform that sticks out in my head as being the easiest to use was PlayStation Vue. I really miss it.

I subscribe to Hulu for their library, but YouTube TV is far better for Live TV. I get the appeal of having everything in one app. But their live tv implementation was so bad that it defeated the value of having it together. Long way of saying there's no reason you can't subscribe to Hulu separately if you still want (need) all of that library content. YTTV recording do expire. But anytime a show airs, it resets the clock. Old TV series that are perpetually in reruns (The Office, Big Bang, NCIS, etc) and popular movies (Marvel, Harry Potter, etc) will always be available because they're always re-recording. The interface took some getting used to compared to cable. But it's really not that bad. Honestly I usually live in the Home tab. It learned what I watch and usually recommends whatever I want to watch that's being broadcast live. Some tweaks wouldn't hurt. But IMO it's more of a learning curve situation. I don't need to scroll endlessly in a grid guide when I can search for programs by name. I don't need to delete recordings I've watched when the DVR is unlimited. Being able to record every single NFL game, NBA game or Olympic sporting even with one click is massively useful.

Looks like You Tube TV is raising their prices. The cost in January will be $82.99. Looking at the price for Hulu + Live TV may be a better deal. I am showing Hulu (no ads) + Live TV, Disney+ (no ads), ESPN+ with ads a cost of $95.99. For about $12 more, get no ads Disney + and Hulu with no ads.

I welcome comments if this is a good deal!

Just making sure to clarify that no ads means no ads during some/most streaming stuff. Doesn’t apply to the live TV aspect of it and it comes up a lot!

If you need more than 2 screens at at time then Hulu requires an ad-on for another $10 (YTTV is 3 before you have to do that). They also have some channels behind an $8 add on. Those may or may not matter to many. Not saying either are deal breakers for people, but just things to pay attention to.

I think YTTV is probably the #1 option out there right now if you are looking for local channels, sports, cable news, DVR, multi-view, ease of use, etc. It also integrates well with the stand alone services. My only gripe is the home page is 1/2 full of adds for streaming services I don't have and don't want.

I might switch back to- YouTube tv is expensive and why do I get no free movies ? Why would I pay for this if I can access movies on regular YouTube - am i using it wrong ? Are there better platforms?

The reason I switched is bc Hulu started out at $54- now it’s almost $90 and have had zero changes with the same free movies since I first got it a few years back.

Most people do some research first before they switch to a different service instead of switching and then asking questions about what the service provides afterwards. And that information is available at the YTTV website.

I currently have YouTube TV and was recently thinking about switching to Hulu TV to try and save money because I have the Hulu/Disney/ESPN bundle as well.

But with everything going on with the Disney and Hulu apps and ESPN, is it still a good idea to try and switch? Should I wait to see what happens first?

The great thing about streaming is they don't lock you into a one-year contract or anything. Switch to Hulu. If you don't like it, switch back the next month. I had YouTubeTV for a while, but they kept adding channels I never watched and began charging as much as cable. All I wanted, really, was ESPN, so I switched to Sling, and I'll cancel that as soon as ESPN launches its standalone app. I have a Tablo, so I just record any shows I want to watch on the broadcast networks for free.

Hulu Live is ending in 2026. Hulu is being rolled into Disney Plus and Live subscribers are being folded into Fubo, which Disney is in the process of acquiring.

If your only issue is price, then be prepared to keep hopping around every so often. If you want good service, then you have to find the one that you enjoy. For me, it was only about price as I only ever wanted Fox and ESPN so I switched from Xfinity and I'll switch from YouTube TV when that price goes up. But like others are saying. Look at it like the early days of Netflix. They're charging less to be cheaper, the price will rise, just a matter of when. That said, no complaints. Some cool features on YouTube TV.

YouTube TV was $35 / month when it first came out. The price has doubled since then. Prices of other service providers have also increased substantially over the past several years. If you are looking for a service provider who doesn't raise their prices, you're wasting your time. They all do it. It's just a matter of how often and how much. They have to pay more for their content so they pass the buck onto their subscribers. The only thing that hasn't gone up in price is OTA reception using an antenna. That still costs me today what it cost me back in 2013.....nothing.

I have YTTV because I like having less delay from live. If those were equal I’d likely have Hulu. Appreciate the extra stream too.

Like others have stated, Hulu has much better picture quality. The bundled Disney Plus and ESPN Plus is nice (better value), not to mention all the Hulu stuff. The channel selection on Hulu is better for my family (love History and Science channel).

YouTube TV is good, but for my family I was paying for 3 different streaming services (Hulu Disney bundle, YouTube TV, and Friendly TV). And condensed it all into one streaming platform with Hulu Live.

Current YouTube TV user here, until the end of my billing cycle with the whole Disney and ESPN and the removing of an abundance of channels. Is Hulu Live good for watching live sports and how is the delay on it? I only really care for watching sports for the most part on there, and with YouTube TV removing all of the sport channels, I just had to see what my alternatives are. I know Hulu Live is still owned by Disney, but I have to cave in lol. Feel free to tell me any cool perks or any downsides to Hulu Live, thank you!

We had Youtubetv for years and dropped it when they lost MLB. Been with Hulu for over a year and prefer it over YTTV 100%. More on demand options and a better picture

I’ve had it for a few years. It’s doesn’t have the Picture in Picture feature for sports. I think the menu system needs some work. Also, if you live in the Washington DC area, Hulu recently dropped the Caps and Wizards. So the only local professional team you can watch are the Commanders. Other than that, with the Disney and ESPN bundle, it’s a good deal. I like it.
