I’m a recent college grad who’s beginning a full time position in a job where I’ll be traveling every week. The company covers all expenses, but I need to cover them up front and then I’d get reimbursed the following month. I’ve never had a credit card before and I looked on credit karma today and my score is about 670, but I’d need a limit of $5,000 or more. I could potentially open multiple cards but just looking for the highest limit card for somebody in my shoes. I could also use a company credit card but that’s not ideal because I want to start building my own credit and get some rewards.

Whatever you do, pay no attention to Credit Karma's BS approval odds or the nearly irrelevant VS3 (not Fico) scores they provide. What sort of credit history do you have, as in, what accounts are on your credit reports open or closed?

For your first credit card, it's quite unlikely that you'd get 5K right away. Credit isn't something you can rush, so the limit you get is the limit you get. With that said, Discover, Amex, and Credit Unions are usually more generous with credit limits.

Rule #1 of having a credit card is don’t buy things with it you can’t normally afford. Treat it like a debit card and only purchase things you know you can pay back. Rule #2 is never carry a balance, what I mean by this is pay off your statement every month in full. Credit card interest rates are ridiculous right now and carrying a balance will cause it to snowball quickly. Some people like to pay off their card every week or every 2 weeks, personally I put it on auto-pay and make sure I have enough to cover my statement each month. If you follow those 2 simple rules you should be golden.
