If it’s regular 1/2” copper, look for a 5/8od compression tee. Compression goes by the OD size. Readily available. More on reddit.com

The first one is a fitting adapter which means it slides into a fitting. You need just a standard male adapter. Fitting adapters are always more expensive for some reason. More on reddit.com

February 20, 2024Odd size 1/2" copper. Any advice? Ran into this during my remodel. slightly larger O.D water lines. 1/2" sweat fitting do not fit over it. pipe is not out of round. I believe this is refrigerant tubing? please help!
1/2 copper has a 5/8 OD, which is .625. Is .010 over enough that a coupler won't fit? Maybe thoroughly sanding the tubing would remove enough to make a coupler work More on reddit.com

Before anyone says google it, I did and I found a myriad of conflicting information. Maybe I'm searching the wrong thing, I don't know.
I'm looking at replacing some copper piping for when I move a vanity and a tub. I've already confirmed drainage size as it's on the pipe, but none of the copper has the writing on it that I can see.
I'm assuming it's 1/2" but don't want to buy the replacement PEX and couplings just for it to be a different size. I've tried the string method but depending on what source I use it's either 2", 1-3/4" or 1/2" (hence why I'm wondering what the heck I'm doing wrong here).
At this point I'm just wondering what is going on and I'm probably overthinking it and it's just 1/2".
Just in case it's helpful I'm in Northern Ontario Canada.

It’s most likely 1/2” but if you want to be sure buy a piece of 1/2” pex and hold it up next to the copper. Or take a look at the copper pipe next to your water heater if it’s exposed - that’s most like 3/4” and see how it compares.
