I had a lot of issues with it. Turns out that stuff is glued with a phenolic glue (for exterior uses) that is VERY tough to laser thru with lower wattage lasers. I have a 60 watt and couldn’t get through it with any reasonable power level and speed. Went to my local hardwood store and bought some BB that cuts like butter. pic More on reddit.com

Try a real lumber yard instead of the big box store. Somewhere that sells hardwood lumber that sells to local cabinet shops. More on reddit.com

April 6, 2023Where do you get your cheap plywood for learning and testing new ideas?
Do you have a Menards near you? I will go through their “damaged” section and buy cheap 1/4” Baltic birch, take it home (comes in 4’x8’ sheets) and rip it on my table saw to smaller pieces that will fit into my laser. There is usually some sort of flaw, like a side was damaged or there is a hole in the middle, but I’ll just use the table saw to cut those off. Worth the time and effort for pennies on the dollar (usually less than $10 for a sheet that runs $40+). More on reddit.com

January 8, 2025Source for 1/4" walnut plywood?
I would look for a lumberyard or lumber store that specializes in hardwoods. IDK how competitive the pricing would be with HD, but the one I use in Seattle has a huge selection of woods, with hardwood plywood in various thicknesses, although I've never bought walnut. I've also heard that glued-up panels of solid wood can be cheaper than plywood in some cases. I've made them up to 30" wide in pine, oak and walnut, using biscuits for joining. Dominoes are the new hotness but those cutters are like $1000. I just use a DeWalt biscuit cutter. You would also need a joiner, mine is a cheap Craftsman 4" with a homemade 8" tall fence I added to keep wide boards vertical. Works like a charm for making edges nice and straight. See if there is a sheet goods distributor in your area as many will sell to "small operators" as counter sales and they generally do have "the good stuff". ... It has been a while since I looked but I was surprised to see that Menards had hardwood plywood that was labeled as "Sand-able" with a face veneer of a whopping .020".
