1:00am
Anything past 12:00am or 00:00 is de la mañana or de la madrugada the latter valid only up to 5:00am (depending on the region, I guess). And yes, you can also say "am" or "pm" (a eme, pe eme). From my experience, this might be a little less common though. 1:00am - "{La una de la mañana ~ La una de la madrugada ~ La una A. M.}" More on reddit.com

What are the correct ways to say 12 AM and 12 PM in Spanish?
The question I was supposed to answer was “¿A qué hora es el almuerzo?”. They said it was at 12 pm. So I wrote “El almuerzo es a las doce de la tarde.” But they said it was supposed to be “El almuerzo es a las doce del día.” Shouldn’t both work? I would never use "tarde" for 12 pm. For me "tarde" is always used some time after lunch. The most natural answer here in Spain would be "El almuerzo es a las 12 de la mañana" because we start having lunch after 13pm so we consider 12pm still morning. But technically 12pm is already noon so in other countries "El almuerzo es a las 12 del mediodía" is more correct. This is fine in Spain too and can be used, so you could stick to this answer as the correct one. But I would avoid "tarde" here anyway. On the other one I got wrong, they gave us times and we were supposed to say what time it is. It said 12:00 am. I put “Son las doce de la mañana.” It was corrected as “Son las doce de la noche.” Before this, I thought that de la mañana = anytime in the AM, de la tarde = PM before dark, and de la noche = PM after dark. Is this incorrect? I know that the other ways to say 12 PM and 12 AM are “mediodía” and “medianoche” but why were my answers wrong? I do consider 12 AM night not morning, so I guess de la noche makes sense, however the correct answer for 1:00 AM was “Es la una de la mañana.” Is it not correct to say de la mañana until 1 AM? I think of 1 AM as night as well. You use "de la mañana" after 12 AM but you don't include 12 AM. 12 AM = de la noche 1 AM = de la mañana As a side note. In some countries (Spain, Chile, maybe there are more) we use the 24 hour system and rarely use the AM/PM system when writing. More on reddit.com

In Spanish, the abbreviations a. m. (from the Latin ante meridiem "antes del mediodía") and p. m. (from the Latin post meridiem "después del mediodía") are used. These abbreviations are written in lower case and using the indicated punctuation. For noon it is custumary to use m. (from the Latin meridies "mediodía"). For example:

La entrada es a las 7.30 a. m. (la entrada es a las siete y media de la mañana).

El servicio se realizará a las 5 p. m. (el servicio se realizará a las cinco de la tarde).

La clase es a las 12 m. (la clase es a las doce del mediodía).

For more information on the hour in Spanish, see hora in Diccionario panhispánico de dudas.

In speech in Mexico I only ever noticed

  • de la mañana for a. m.
  • de la tarde for p. m.

In English pronouncing the abbreviations is just as common in speech as in writing but I'm sure I never heard anyone pronounce them in spoken Spanish though it's clear from the other answers here that they are normal in written Spanish.

Ultimate Guide to Telling Time in Spanish - SpanishPod101.com Blog
October 7, 2024 - The general rule in Spain is: Write in military time and speak the time as numbers from one to twelve. For example, if you’re going to a theater show, you’ll see the time on their page or billboard as follows: ... Las diez y media de la noche. ... For some Latin American countries, the night starts when it’s dark, around six p.m. This is because they’re near the equator, and thus the time the sun sets doesn’t change much during the summer. For the Spanish, on the other hand, the night starts after eight p.m.
