That’s easy to test: let’s say the people sitting at the ends need about 12” of space in front of them (and the diagonal legs make it awkward to sit right at the corner anyway); seat side by side marking out 21” per person and see how tight that feels. I bet it will feel too tight. If you have the space I’d go with 25” per person at least, so about 124” total. More on reddit.com

A "rule of thumb" is that there should be 61-91cm (24–36 inches) of clearance between the back of a chair and the wall to allow for getting in and out and people passing behind comfortably. I would personally err on the higher side of that, i.e. 91cm/36 inches if you want it truly be comfortable. Do your chairs tuck right in, or have larger armrests that limit how far they can be tucked in? That also makes a difference. If your chairs tuck right in, you can probably get away with less clearance (though i still wouldn't go below that 61cm/24 inches). More on reddit.com

A few thoughts…. 1)Your apron will need to be substantial since it bears the load of the tabletop. I wouldn’t make it any less than 6” and a full 1” thick. 2) Your apron will require several cross members between the sides. Some 45’s at the corners wouldn’t be a bad idea either. 3) C channels are mostly gimmicky. If the lumber was dried and milled properly and your assembly techniques are good, you won’t have any issues with cupping. 4) 4’6”? Are you sure?? That’s HUGE. I think the last dining table I made was 31” wide. 5) Z clips are fine for smaller things, this table would probably benefit from something more robust. You can drill up through cross members and put threaded inserts into the table top. This requires widening the hole in the cross member to account for seasonal movement. Look up how they attach install windows in log cabins. Same concept. More on reddit.com

So 60” tables can technically fit 10, but you’re right, it is tight! In your photo, the chairs are pushed in really far causing it to look even more cramped, but still! If you had kids at the table, you could make it work. 72” tables can fit 10 with plenty of room for formal place settings! But if your venue already has 60” tables I’d definitely try to plan your seating so that you use a mix of venue owned 60” tables & rented 72” tables to keep costs down, instead of a single size, if possible! Square dining tables generally seat 4. For rectangular dining tables: 62-inch length seats up to 6; 82-inch length seats 8; 112-inch length seats 10. For round dining tables: 36-inch diameter seats 2; 48-inch diameter seats 4; 60-inch diameter seats 6. If you will need a smaller table for most of the year and a bigger one just for parties or at holiday time, consider getting an extendable table, so you can add and take out a leaf as needed.

Depends how big your 10 chairs are and whether you have enough leg room on either end to put a chair. I would say you want a minimum of 24” per person to sit somewhat comfortably.
