Bamboo-Viscose-Rayon-Cellulose-Lyocell I keep seeing people extolling the virtues of bamboo as if it’s as natural as cotton, linen, silk, or wool. The reality is that there’s no such thing as bamboo sheets. It’s viscose, which is rayon, made from cellulose, which prior to multiple lye and other chemical treatments to turn it into mash, then mixed with solvents and poured through jets to form into a thread…may have begun as a bamboo plant. Bamboo is a misnomer. Companies use the term “Bamboo” to market Rayon as a sustainable, natural product. However, in 2010, the Federal Trade Commission put an end to this, writing: “The soft textiles you see labeled ‘bamboo’ don’t contain any part of the bamboo plant. They are made from bamboo that has been processed into rayon using toxic chemicals. When bamboo is processed into rayon, no trace of the original plant is left.” Treehugger Article More on reddit.com

There’s no such thing as “bamboo” (or “eucalyptus” for that matter) clothing and bedding. What you are wearing is Rayon, and yes it’s marked up insanely over material cost because people hear “bamboo” and think “natural” and “green” and “sustainable” (all of which is complete bullshit, the manufacturing process for rayon via bamboo cellulose is INSANELY toxic and corrosive, there’s nothing green about it). A bunch of big retailers have already been sued and fined by the FTC for labeling their bedding that way, but unfortunately the FTCs ability to go after every little company making similar deceptive claims is limited, and it’s a very effective marketing strategy (as seen in this post and every other one about bamboo bedding in this sub, it makes people think a synthetic fiber is a natural fiber), so the companies all still do it. The cozy earth polyester fill comforter is overpriced for something made from synthetics. The medium woolroom comforter may be too warm at 8lbs of fill for a king size. I’d lean towards the summer weight at 6.6 lbs of fill and even that may be too much for a hot sleeper.
