More on reddit.comA cool guide on 100 words every adult should know
My youngest is 2.5 this month. He has a some words and a great deal of interesting sounds but I keep seeing all these posts about peoples 2 and 3 year olds that talk in complete sentences. I’m worried he’s behind, it’s been 8 years since my oldest was this age so I don’t remember is he was fully talking by now.
Should I get an appointment with his doctor? Should I just let him develop at his own pace?
3 year update!
I’ve gotten several messages and new comments asking for an update so I figured I’d add it to the post
He’s on track now and talks non stop! We put him in a part time day care with other kids his age and got him tested for autism. He attended two years of a developmental preschool that has speech therapy and occupational therapy programs. After about two months of day care his vocabulary exploded and with the help of the pre school he was able to get back on track and will be attending a general education kindergarten this coming fall.
His doctor, therapists and I believe his delays were a combination of his autism and lack of peer to peer communication due to COVID isolation. The adults around him communicated plenty but peer to peer communication can sometimes be an important to development.
