I spent the last year writing a web app to help others and myself learn the top 1000 Italian words. Studying the most common words is a method of study to allow you to focus on the words you will likely encounter most and can help aid comprehension faster.
If you search for a list of words, in nearly all cases you will find exactly that, a list of words. There is no context as to what the part of speech, gender is for each word etc. and it's up to you to organize, annotate, build study tools etc.
Being frustrated with these bare-bones lists I created my own solution: https://1000italianwords.com
This is more than "just a list" as each word includes the gender, part of speech, and sometimes a note to help provide meaning between Italian and English.
In addition to being a better list, the words are sorted into decks. Each deck can be reviewed or you can jump into a study session where you're presented in Italian and answer in English. This is all free, no account, no ads.
For those that are looking for more, I do offer plans to unlock additional features, such as reverse study where you're presented in english and answer in Italian, the ability to save your results, track your progress over time, and more.
But the best feature is the ability to apply modifiers such as articles, plurality, prepositions, or various combinations. This allows you to study the words with additional context. For example instead of just studying the word "libro", you can study libro in the following forms.
libro, un libro, il libro, questo libro, in questo libro... libri, i libri, questi libri, quei libri, in quei libri...
I hope this resource proves useful to those looking for a better list of words. I'm always open to feedback as well and I continue to make improvements, and correct inaccuracies as I come across them.
