Wanting to get a more beefy processor to pair with my Strix 3080 Ti. Always overclokcing as much as I can before thermals. Eventually whatever CPU I get will be on a custom waterloop. Which one would you guys recommend? Main purpose is 4k gaming.
For my gaming needs guys✌🏻
Current rig: i7-10700k | rog rtx 3090Ti

Do you guys think upgrading from a 10900k to a 12700k or a 12900k would be good for gaming. Sorry updated it now
For gaming? No, not worth it. If you need the multithreaded application performance, maybe.
For what? I have a 10900k and I only plan to upgrade in 1-2 years at least when we get a 13700k/13900k or a 14700k/14900k (the i9 is generally a waste because it's the same amount of P cores but just extra useless E cores for like $200 more).
Realistically you're not actually gaming at 1080p (I hope), so the gain isn't going to be huge if any for gaming. Better to wait for DDR5 prices to drop in a year first.
So, I am starting to build a wall mounted PC with some old parts from previous builds. The CPU we have is 11700F and we want to be able to overclock and thought about buying a 10900K. They should;d be cheap, right?
Well, prices at Ebay are INSANE!! Most are more expensive than a NEW 12900k from Micro Center ($299), and those that are not more expensive than the 12900k look like they were chewed by an Orc!
Does anybody know why? Is there a crazy fetish kink that involves old CPUs?
Seriously, there must be a reason, but it eludes me!
i was wondering which one of these i should get (i have a 32gb 3600mhz cl14 ddr4 kit) so i’d have to get a ddr4 mobo if i got the 12900k i just want the one that’s better latency wise. i heard that the 12900k has more latency than the 10900k but i haven’t seen any tests or charts so i don’t know what to get honestly
You mean the imperceptible difference that you wont fell in a million years?
If you are playing competitive games, using competitive settings on a 240Hz or 360Hz 1080p monitor get a 12900K, disable the E-Cores and overclock it to 5.2GHz all cores
10900k is still solid but 12900k will future proof yourself. DDR4 is still in a better spot than DDR5 right now so don't feel like a DDR4 board will limit you.
If going 12900k, ensure you have adequate cooling because it will run hot. You will need a very beefy air cooler or just go AIO if you plan to OC, don't go cheap. Also keep in mind you may have to show proof of purchase to the cooler manufacturer in order to get a free LGA1700 mounting kit since the 12th Gens changed sockets again.
I just did a 12700k build and went with an Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360. I am hitting max 64c in CPUMark benchmark/stress test on stock fan profiles. Super solid so far and the system rips.
So if have the option to choose between two gaming PC’s set up:
RTX 3080Ti with an i9 10900K
OR
RTX 3080 with an i9 12900K
Which should I choose ? these are my only options for now.
What to expect from the upcoming Intel flagship? (compared to current and previous Intel flagships)
*DISCLAIMER: I am only using my bro's i7-9700k unit so I have no knowledge about those above*
I am thinking of getting a 12900k flagship PC next year for the following uses:
-Triple monitor setup
-1080p gaming (maximum 144-165hz)
-OBS studio (for livestreaming)
-YouTube and/or Twitch streaming
-connection with a Go Pro Hero 10 camera
-interface with Pioneer DJ Rekordbox (might hook up CDJ-2000NXS2 units + DJM-TOUR1 mixer to it)
Also:
Can I do everything in just that one PC?
Or will I still need a separate / dedicated PC for OBS streaming?
I currently have an i5-10400. I'm thinking about upgrading the CPU as I feel my bottleneck is the CPU compared to my other specs. Is it worth just spending the extra dough for the new architecture (DDR5, LGA1700, DDR5 Etc.) or just keeping on DDR4 with the LGA1200.
I'd have to replace the Motherboard, RAM, CPU, CPU Cooler. GPU/Case/PSU are more than enough.
I'm more directed towards gaming, but also productivity is a must.
TLDR: Is it worth me just spending the $350 or so for the CPU and $80 for the cooler (example), using this generation for a few more years then making the jump to the newer architecture? By then it'll be 15/16/17th gen Etc.
I”m looking to upgrade my PC and wondering which to upgrade to. I will be gaming in 4K and video editing in 4K also. Which would you guys recommend?
12700k is better in every way. Also there will be at least one more generation on lga1700 whereas lga1200 is dead. The only reason to consider the 10900k is if you already have an lga 1200 motherboard in which case there would be a price incentive to just go 10th gen because then you wouldn’t need a new motherboard.
12700k hands down. Significantly better gaming and MT performance, with an upgrade path to 13th gen, better motherboard features, and overall pricing shouldnt be too much more.
My Friend wanted to me to ask this for him on here (cause he was scared he was gonna get clowned on lol) but he was debating on upgrading to either the 12900K or 14900K Intel CPU (he currently has a 10900K and he only uses his PC For gaming with some video editing in the Mix, and he is aware he’ll have to upgrade the motherboard)
I bought the 10900k 2 months ago. Now intel released the new gen processor i want to know if the 12900k worth it.
I've heard a lot that either the 12700K is much better than the 10900K, or that they perform similarly for gaming. And I've seen youtube benchmark vids where the 12700k wins by just a few frames. I've also been told that they perform similarly even when oc'd, but I don't know much about cpu overclocking. is the 12700K worth the extra few bucks?
Hi guys I'm currently running a i7 10700f with a 3080, I really don't think it is enough.
I play 1080p 240hz, competitive games.
What do you think is better to get? the i9 11900k (I already have the mobo and ram) or getting the i9 12900k (I need to get mobo and ram). The difference between the i9 11th gen upgrade and the i9 12th upgrade is like 1500$ at least in my country.
