Hey guys, I'm going to buy a cpu for my new pc. I personally though the i9 series, no matter the generation perform better. But as I watched a video on youtube by "Tech Notice" which compared the mentioned CPUs, I'm starting to change my mind to 13700 especially because of its lower price.
But as I find redditors' opinions quite helpful before buying pc parts, decided to ask you all for deciding better.
I mostly use my pc for 3d modelling, rendering and sometimes video editing and gaming.
P.S. Do you think Corsair h170i Elite Capellix is enough for cooling 13700?
I’m torn between a used i9-12900K and an i7-13700K. Both are about £200 GBP at CEX in the UK with a 5-year warranty.
The 13700K is ~8% faster according to the CPU benchmark site, but I’ve seen a lot of reports about 13th/14th gen instability from voltage issues that can cause overheating, crashes, or even kill the CPU. I know some people fix it with undervolting or BIOS updates, but this is my first build and I don’t want to risk messing it up. I also know BIOS updates have been sent out and can help, but I’m a bit nervous about bricking the motherboard if I do it wrong.
For context, I’ll be pairing it with an MSI GeForce RTX 4060 Ventus 2X 8GB. I know it’s not the latest and greatest GPU, but this is really me dipping my toes into the world of PC gaming after coming from console.
Should I just play it safe with the 12900K, or go for the 13700K and trust that it hasn’t already been damaged by the previous owner?
TL;DR: First build. Both CPUs are £200 used. 12900K = safer, 13700K = ~8% faster but riskier (voltage/BIOS issues). GPU is an RTX 4060. Coming from console, so this is my first step into PC gaming. Which would you choose?

Hey all need some suggestions to upgrade my existing build. Going Intel only. Will be used mostly for gaming. Not interested in overclocking or tweaking anything. Just want to play games at the best experience and at the best bang for buck.

I got an offer of 13700 for $205 and 12900K for $185. Which should I choose ?

Which Mobo chipset should I get for the CPUs mentioned ?

I have a 650W PSU already, can I use either of the CPUs in 1 without upgrading ? (I have a 3060)

Should I go for DDR4 or DDR5 ? Is there any significant difference?
Need help deciding if the 13700k is worth an extra 150$ in the bundle
Generally just do 1440P gaming paired with a rtx 3080 ti
Occasionally host a modded Minecraft server for about 8 people
Bundle 1 399.99$ I9 12900k MSI z690-A pro 2x 16GB Ripjaws DDR5-6000
Bundle 2 549.99$ I7 13700K Asus Z690 - P prime wifi 2x 16GB Ripjaws Ddr5-6000
Edit: Bundle 2 has the Z790 p prime not z690
Trying to decide which bundle to get. I have a 4070ti. Thank you.
in every youtube benchmark, i saw mix result , sometimes 13700k wins and sometimes 12900k. so i dont know which to buy, so still confused . i dont know why 12900k cost more? is there any advantage.
These bundles are amazing but I’m torn is the 13700k worth the extra money?
Hi all,
I have a decision to make. Currently at a store near me there is a deal running that I can get a 12900k with motherboard ( ASUS ASUS Z690-PLUS TUF Gaming ) included for $500. However, I can get, based on other sales they are having, a 13700k with the exact same motherboard for $620. So, for $120 more, I can get a generation up on the CPU with the same motherboard however an i7 instead of an i9. That's pretty much my dilemma, what would you do? Is the extra money worth it or no? Benchmarks have the 13700k slightly faster, but not by much. Currently running an Intel 6700k so either would be quite the upgrade.
Thank you in advance.
I am building a gaming pc and I'm not sure which CPU to get. I mainly play games but I usually have 5+ other programs running on a second monitor such as discord, youtube, chrome, obs, etc. What's the difference between these two CPUs and which would best suit my needs?
Hey guys, Im basically going to build a pc as a beginner, but Im having a hard time chosing between an intel i9 12900k bundle 400$ and an i7 13700k bundle 550$, for me the motherboard and the ram are basically the same so it doesnt matter, but is the increase in perfromance even worth 150$ even when Im on a budget. And what about other costs such as cooling and power usage, and maybe future upgrade-ability.
(Im not going to buy that high end of a Gpu, somewhere around the 3080-4070 range)
Im not that familliar with all this PC building thing, so I decided to come here and ask for your own opinions and advice.
Currently comparing these two microcenter bundles: 13700k/Z790 Mobo/32gb DDR5 and the 12900k/Z690 Mobo/32gb DDR5. For $100 more, is 13700k worth it? This will be used for my dad's work PC, which includes compiling large amounts of code as well as other general office tasks. Gaming is not a consideration.
13700k is a bit more expensive (because of the motherboard). Is it worth it? I kinda don't want to cheap out of the CPU
13700K is faster. It also supports higher memory speeds.
They are supported by the same motherboards, you might just need to update BIOS. Which boards are you looking at?
Yeah normally you'll find that the BIOS has most likely already been updated, I bought a Asus Rog Strix B660-I board which is advertised as 12th gen which usually means with the BIOS update you can put 13th gen in it.
It was a straight up plug and play for me, just put the CPU in and it was a done deal, 13th gen has been out long enough now and old stock would almost certainly been sold, so most of the time it will be updated, either way it should say on the box.
I’m looking to upgrade my CPU from an i5-8400 to finally get the full power on my Intel arc card and not bottleneck anymore. I was going to go with the 12900K but I was wondering if it would be more worth it to just tough it out a couple more months to save up for the 13700K bundle instead. Would the performance differences be that noticeable?
The 13700K is basically a 12900K with a slight IPC bump. It’s not worth an extra $150.
Neither would have issues with a A770.

So I'm between two processors, the intel i7 13700k and i9 12900k. Using it for just gaming and maybe a little workload too. Essentially i want the processor that will run microsoft flight simulator 2020 as well as i possibly can as that's what i mainly use the computer for. Even if the difference in frames is 1 or 2% higher, every frame counts in this simulator. Does anyone have any experience with these two cores and can offer their 2 cents? Thanks.
Hey y’all,
I’m wanting to build my very first pc. I’ve modified an old Dell OEM and it’s been alright, but I’m ready for a less janky setup. I am fortunate enough to live close to a Microcenter, and they have 3 promotions up on the 12700k, 12900k, and 13700k. I was curious which bundle you would choose in this situation because they are all priced very fairly IMO. My workload is playing Borderlands 3, Red Dead 2, and Plants Vs Zombies. I open very large assemblies in Solidworks, and I do some machine learning and CFD for professional work and academic research. I’ll post links to the pages below, thanks for any and all replies!

Also I’ll be running 2 1080ti graphics cards, so any power supply recommendations are welcome as well.
13700k
12900K.
13700K is better but not $100 better. The 13700K was a great buy when it was initially much cheaper than the 12900K. But 12th-gen prices have been slashed. That 12900K bundle is $100 cheaper, runs cooler, and has 90-95% of performance of the 13700K in most tasks.
hello guys i wanted to build a new pc for gaming and i just cant decide
would be a i7 13700k or a i9 12900k better for a rtx 4070
The 13700K is better than the 12900K in every way.
But both of these seem unnecessary, why not just a 13600K?
13700k is just a better 12900k. Same core count, same cache, higher clock speeds. 13th gen in general is just better than 12th gen. If the 13700k is the same price or cheaper for you, seems like a no-brainer. I think even a 13600k would be a fine choice considering the GPU.
Trying to decide between these two bundles. I have a 4070ti. Thank you.
