I'm a first time home buyer and I'm looking for a reality check when it comes to my "dream kitchen remodel". We have a 12x12 U shaped kitchen with a half wall on one leg of the "U" separating the kitchen from the living room. I want to change the layout to an L shape with an island by removing the half wall and opening up the kitchen to the living room. I read that cabinets can range from $100-$300 per linear foot which doesnt seem that expensive, but what would we be looking at for overall cost including demolishing the old cabinets and half wall? We would be keeping our current appliances and the only "luxury touches" we would be adding is granite countertops. Is this an easy $7,000 job or more of an untouchable $30,000 job?
