Anyone know where to find plus size 1930s dress patterns? Or dress patterns that look similar to 1930s dress styles? Please let me know!
My best friend is about to get engaged, and I am in cahoots with her boyfriend on the proposal. It’s going to be a 1930’s themed murder mystery party where he proposes and I need some period appropriate clothing but I’m having a ROUGH time finding vintage inspired plus sized clothes (that aren’t also $800). Does anyone have any good shop recommendations?
Hello everyone!!! So my husband and I have an event at the end of theonth that we're attending to celebrate our anniversary. The general "vibe" is roughly 20s-40s orchestra/big band type of dance and the dress code is vintage formal glam encouraged. Because of the general time period with the music I've decided to stick to the middle and do the 30s. With that being said, I dont have enough spare time to make a dress for the event so I'm going the purchasing route. However, since I'm plus sized, finding formal evening dresses in my size is really hard, especially with the 30s (understandably).
I consolidated a few pictures I have found that inspired each part of the dress I found.
Collage #1: you'll see the twisted almost bow like silhouette detail on the bust of the one dress , the fluttery sleeves on the black dress, and the low backs on the other dress examples. And the slight heel with open toe detail on the shoes. These are all details I looked for in a modern dress that I could hopefully alter.
Collage #2: You'll see the same twisted bow silhouette on the bust, low back on the dress (although rounded, not shaped in a "V"), and the flutter sleeves (although sheer). The shoes (dance shoes) also have the general vintage 30s heel feel and similar style to the examples I have found online.
The look I'm going for is white and silver (because it's an anniversary) and I want my outfit to have a bridal feel by utilizing white. I also plan on altering it a little now (sewing up the side slit and what not) in hopes I can make it feel more accurate, but I'm strapped for time so we shall see what I can do. But yeah
Anyway, I was just posting here because I really wanted external opinions on this, and wether or not you think it will be fine. Usually I stick to the 50s, so I'm a bit out of place choosing the 30s for fashion and I would just love others views.
Perhaps some of you have any ideas on how I can alter this later to make it more accurate? I plan on holding onto this for other events in the future so any enhancement I can make would be a plus.
