What we gained was affordability, and versatility. What we have lost is understanding good fit. It blows me away the number of celebrities that wear suits as if it's athletic wear, one size too small to show off some muscles, mismatching Fabrics not because they're trying to make a statement but because they don't understand the difference between a sports coat and a suit jacket. I do love that our shirts are much easier to manage, my father got my grandfathers armoire after he passed, it had compartments for shirt collars, shirt cuffs, tie pins cufflinks, and a few others that I can't remember that were rather small and piddly. Do a google image search for Boardwalk Empire characters and you'll get the gist of it. You'll need substantial tailoring; I haven't heard of anywhere that sells vintage suits from that era, and I doubt many still exist. To start with, you'll likely need to get a shirt made with a tunic collar that can take a detachable collar that's pinned on from the inside. You'll also likely need a collar pin that goes under your tie...there are a lot of such details and fussiness about the clothes of this era. Modern clothes have tended to take a lot of it away.
