Those stores, but on deep sales. Something I like about a place like Todd Snyder, they discount clothes heavily sometimes, and don’t even necessarily do it after the season is over. Right now they have summer clothes on sale because they’ll be promoting Autumn soon. It is the beginning of July. Still plenty of time to wear those summer clothes. More on reddit.com

I recommend you do some research on what you think you are looking for. Classical menswear has changed in small amounts over the years. I suspect the style you are looking for is easily attainable via thrift or ebay. In most cases the original stuff will be cheaper and better made than most new things that are not at least made to measure or full bespoke. More on reddit.com

November 28, 2023Here's a couple of recommendations if you want to buy Vintage (Maisel-esque) clothes online
A couple of comments: Unique Vintage, as you said is on the pricier side, I got a dress from them before and TBH there's nothing 'special' about the material or their production to justify the cost beyond them wanting to charge more for it. It's totally fine, brands can charge what they want, but just in case anyone is thinking the extra cost = higher quality products (I recently had this discussion with a friend). It's not bad quality by any stretch but I likely won't repurchase. Retro Stage: I've not bought from them but I get a dodgy/"Wish" vibe from them -- I got served an ad on Facebook for Retro Stage but they used an image of another brands clothes in their advertising. That is enough to put me off considering buying from them ever. It's misleading at best and illegal at worst. For anyone based in the UK I've bought a few dresses from Collectif (the brand that Retro Stage stole the image from), and really, really like their stuff! More on reddit.com

Hi, I've done a search here and while I've found a few threads kind of on what I'm looking for, every previous post seems to be more specific than what I'm needing.
Simply put, I'm looking for a real swingin', dapper gent sort of get-up that's as authentically 1940's fashion for a guy as is possible, all while staying affordable but good quality. Does anyone know of any online stores other than stuff like ebay that may suit my needs?
Currently this would just be for a 1940's party I'm going to, so I'm hoping for some nice trousers, shoes, jacket, shirt, and whatever other accouterments I can come across. Something formal would be nice, is what I'm saying.
Everything I'm finding is either ridiculously expensive, cheap quality, or a more modern interpretation of style back then, whereas I simply want some nice, simple men's clothes like what you could've bought at the local Sears back in the day. Understandably this treads more into "costume" territory, so I get that a little extra cost is going to be inevitable, but what it seems like what I'm needing doesn't exactly need to break the bank.
Any help would be much appreciated, you hip cats!

I'm gonna be following this thread so I can get some info for my GF. Quality or cheap. Pick one. As far as I know, that's what you're gonna get. Either really expensive yet authentic clothing (this stuff has survived decades, of course it's gonna cost a lot) or cheap non authentic stuff That stuff doesn't sell anymore so it's no surprise you can't find anything "Retro".

I have been buying from jcrew and banana republic and recently discovered Taylor stitch and huckberry. I like the Taylor stitch, when I see their website I feel it’s my style. However, I can’t bring myself to buy an Oxford or $128. I am wondering if I watching Yt video through which I found out about them I am getting influenced and if it’s all hype or worth buying from? Or are there other stores I should look into?

I agree with all of this, particularly Todd Snyder, J.Crew, which has really improved lately. I will also throw out something controversial here. Abercrombie has really improved its offerings. It is not the Abercrombie of the old days. They have very high-quality men’s clothing now. the prices are not bad either and they have sales. Check it out if you get a chance. I also get a weekly email from GQ on men’s fashion that tells you about sales at all of these places and also recommends other really great high and online clothing shops or I have found a lot of great stuff.
