You don't need the app, but it has a few advantages: - You can share unlock/lock status with multiple browsers. For example, if you have Safari, Brave, and Firefox, if you have the app you only need to unlock 1P once and it will unlock the browser extensions for all these browsers. Same if you need to re-enter your password every x days. Otherwise you'd have to unlock the extension individually in each. - The app has a much better interface than the website or browser extension, especially when managing passwords (bulk retagging, mass updating, etc.). Since updating to version 2.27.1 of the 1Password Chrome extension, the entire browser becomes unusable when the extension is active. Most UI elements, menus, and the searchbar are unresponsive, losing focus immediately after interaction. Occasionally, a click might work, but it's rare. It took me hundreds of clicks to disable each extension one by one to identify the culprit.
My Chrome version is 127.0.6533.100 (arm64).

I checked that everything was updated, even reinstalling the extension, restarting my browser, my computer. But it’s just broken. Again. ... Thanks for leaving a review. This can be fixed by quitting Safari, opening 1Password for Mac and clicking Help > Troubleshooting > Fix Missing Safari Extension.If that doesn’t work, email [email protected] and someone will reach out to help and get everything up and running as it should.

I am successfully using 1Password in my web browsers on macOS. Do I need to have the 1Password app running too? What benefits are there in having both the extension and the app?

It’s been handy for me to have the app open and safari when working through the list of hundreds of passwords to change. Easier to arrange vaults and scroll through the list to prioritise in the App. Just worked better for me but each to their own🤷♂️

Hi
Yesterday (4/3) i updated to the newest version of the 1p app on my mac. Now my chrome plugin crashes each time I try to use it. Worked fine before i updated. Also no issue on my windows pc.
Tried reinstalling the plugin. Release channel is set to prod. Only have 1 other plugin, but disabling this did not help.
Any pointers?
Edit. Installed Firefox and the plugin works fine there
Update: After the newest MacOS update it works fine again.

Also happening to me. Same scenario as OP. Updated to the newest 1Password extension in Chrome on Mac and now 1Password crashes when I try to use it.
