Hey u/LogicalSpecialist9 👋 Please, please, please. Never download and install 1Password from anywhere other than our official channels. As you mentioned in the thread, you can grab older, legacy versions of 1Password for Mac from our app updates page . It sounds like you were possibly using 1Password 7 previously with a license, which meant your data was stored only on your device, unless you configured and maintained sync with a third-party service like iCloud or Dropbox. If that sounds familiar to you, here's a guide on how to find your 1Password for Mac license file that you'll need to set things up again the way you had it prior to wiping your Mac. I just had to wipe my MacBook clean and reinstall everything. I got 1Password 7 from the Mac App Store, and I can sign in to my iCloud vault and retrieve my passwords, but I cannot edit any of the items.
Also, I keep getting an annoying pop-up.
Apparently I have the version that wants me to have a subscription.
Believe it or not I am dead broke right now. I am literally counting out $20 bills, I am cutting my diet back to rice, eggs, and lentils, I am reducing my cell phone plan to a trickle, etc. This is not the time for me to be adding another subscription service. I literally just sold some old books to buy some food. I have just gone through a 6-week stint of cancelling every possible subscription service I have. I even turned of the internet at my apartment.
Anyway, in the past I seem to have been able to somehow install a version of 1Password 7 that was fully synced between my four Apple devices, all via iCloud, and I could add and edit items from any device. I would like to return to this state.
So I want to download and install the old, standalone version of 1Password 7 that was working fine for me just a couple of weeks ago. I can't seem to find any way to find this download on the 1Password.com website or in the Mac App Store.
So my question is: what about this thing that I found here in the screenshot -- is it safe? Is the macupdate.com website a place that is trying to trick me with some kind of virus with a deceptive name? Or is this just a way for me to get the version of 1Password 7 that I need so that my MacBook can function normally?

For everyone reading this in 2025: I installed 1Password v7.9.9 on macOS because it allows me to edit passwords. When using the latest version (7.9.11), then I am unable to edit passwords because AgileBits wants to migrate users to their newer versions. That's why I suggest keeping v7.9.9 and deactivating updates (1Password > Settings > Updates > Disable "Automatically check for updates").
