r/macapps on Reddit: 1Password alternative...?
May 9, 2023 -

I've been an old-time user of 1Password, but to be honest, I've recently grown disappointed with this app. It's full of bugs and lacks progress (the subscription model doesn't help either).

What are you guys using as an alternative for a managing passwords? Preferably something that works well on both macOS and iOS

Does anyone have a good alternative to 1Password?

I've been using 1Password for probably over a decade and I have friends in need of a password keeper.

We are 100% against subscription models and thus we need something new.

It's disappointing that the standalone license is no longer offered, but I guess it is what it is.

I've been a 1Password users since it's inception in 2006. What a great app that was back in the days! Simple, easy-to-use, powerful. But now it seems that the app has lost its way and has become bloatware. The move to Electron and now it's inclusion of managing crypto and NFTs has really shaken my confidence in this app and the team behind it.

Are there any alternatives to 1Password for the Mac that allow you to manage passwords across multiple Apple devices?

r/PasswordManagers on Reddit: Better Password Manager than Bitwatden and 1Password
December 11, 2024 -

Bitwarden and 1Password are the most recommended options. I already have access of Bitwarden family plan and I am searching for a personal one, you guys suggested me to use Bitwarden again. But, I don't like to use same things again.

So, here I am again, requirements are simple -

  • cloud sync

  • secure and privacy focused

  • mobile app support.

Please, don't suggest KeePass, I can't go with it.

Comment section is open and I'm waiting for your valuable suggestions.

Thanks

r/selfhosted on Reddit: Should I switch from 1Password to the Self Hosted alternative Bitwarden?
November 22, 2022 -

The Lastpass incident woke me up and really made me think about what I was doing and why I was entrusting my passwords to others.

Now I have come to the decision to switch to a self-hosted password manager.

I am currently a little afraid that my current one might be hit at some point.

I currently use 1Password and would like to switch to the self-hosted version of Bitwarden.

What do you think, is it worth it and do I have to worry about security?

I know a lot about securing Linux servers, so I think I'm relatively safe, but what do you think?

Where should I host, can you recommend a secure hoster that is also trustworthy?

I am currently thinking about using Hetzner, Ionos or AWS.

If possible the hoster should be located in Germany.

r/NordPass on Reddit: 1Password vs. NordPass for Managing Both Personal and Business Passwords: Which is Better?
June 25, 2024 -

I've been doing some research for several hours and I've narrowed down my options for a business password manager to 1Password and NordPass. I've read a lot of great things about 1Password, but I've also noticed that NordPass is becoming a leading contender, with many people suggesting it's even better than 1Password. Opinions are divided, but there seems to be a trend among specialists leaning towards NordPass.

Personally, I prefer NordPass's design, but I appreciate 1Password's mission and the direction they are heading, along with their long-standing presence in the market. I'm planning to not only set up a password manager for my business but also migrate my personal passwords from my old manager to a new one.

My main concern is which of these two tools allows for a smoother switching between my personal and business vaults. I want to know if NordPass or 1Password is better suited for this kind of seamless switching. I'll be spending most of my time in my personal vault, but occasionally, I'll need to switch to the business vault.

Additionally, autofill functionality is crucial for me, and I've heard mixed reviews about both. Some say NordPass is better, while others prefer 1Password.

Does anyone have experience with both tools and can provide some insight on which one offers a better experience for managing both personal and business passwords, particularly with seamless switching and autofill performance?

Thanks in advance!

I have accounts with both 1Password and NordPass. Both are group (family) accounts, so not business per se, but perhaps similar. I've been with 1Password for a very long time (10 years?) and with NordPass for the last couple of years. I also have an active account with Bitwarden, and have used LastPass, Dashlane, Keeper, and many others on and off. Note that NordPass's non-business accounts do NOT support generation of TOTPs, while 1Password does (ditto Bitwarden and Keeper). I use Aegis and 2FAS for TOTP and am happy to have this separated, but I admit that getting it from your password manager is convenient. I think NordPass business may support 2FA token generation, if that matters to you. Differences in the way they're set up might matter to you. 1Password relies on the secret key as well as a password/passphrase. The secret key means that you can have a shorter master password if you like and you can probably dispense with 2FA on your 1Password account as well; but it makes accessing your account on new machines awkward, and it also complicates accessing several different accounts (which I need to do sometimes). NordPass has a two-part login that requires occasionally logging into your Nord account and then logging into your vault and that's a hassle but an infrequent one. Pros and cons both ways. I believe they are equally secure, as a practical matter. 1Password has a desktop app as well as web access. NordPass is moving to an exclusively web-based product. NordPass's web app is (in my judgment) very good. But 1Password does have an advantage if you wish to use it to store and access apps outside your browser or if you expect to need to get passwords on those (presumably rare) occasions when you lack internet access. 1Password has been a leader in this field and if that matters to you, well, there's that. I read 1Password's blog fairly regularly as they have good info there. But NordPass has good support for passkeys. NordPass is my primary password manager now. 1Password is excellent but I much prefer NordPass's clean and attractive design, and while I maintain my 1Password account I don't use it much any more. 1Password for me has too many options. This is however no doubt a matter of personal taste and I don't think you can go wrong with either one of them. Actually, properly using any decent password manager (1Password, NordPass, Bitwarden, Keeper, Dashlane, Proton Pass et al.) means you're ahead of the crowd. Even LastPass is probably okay, if you use it intelligently although I cannot recommend it given the company's demonstrated incompetence and the fact that there are so many excellent alternatives. One last note: People here complain about having had problems with NordPass. I don't doubt these reports. But I can tell you from long experience with many different products that they all have problems from time to time.

I could not stand NordPass issues so changed back to 1Password. Nordpass handling of filling forms are hidious.
