I have a 1password business account, that I use for personal and contract work. I've recommended to one of the sites I work at that they sign up for 1password business as they have no good way of sharing passwords between a handful of staff.
I'm not going to sign into their business account as I have everything in mine, if we want to share passwords across both business accounts is the best way they have a shared vault and I have a shared vault or can we set a vault they own to read/write for guests or is there a better way?
I'm leaving my company and will obv. loose access to my corporate sponsored 1Password account. I've already moved all my personal stuff over to a Personal vault on the corporate account.
What's the best way to proceed? Am I basically going to sign up for a personal account and then somehow move / copy / export my personal vault over from the work account?
Hi,
the company I work for uses 1Password. In the vault I have access to team accounts etc. If I were to add my private vault can the company admins see or access in any way my personal vault? I have seen cases where they could recover passwords from colleagues who left the company but this was with the company vault basically.
Hi all,
I have been playing with both 1Password Personal and 1Password Business trails and I was wondering, does anyone find paying 7.99$/month, for 1Password Business with only 1 member, worth it?
I'm asking this since 1Password Business includes a complimentary 1Passsword Family account (costing 4.99$/month). Assuming paying 3$/month more is fine with me and I might use the 1Password Business account with only 1 member for my work, does anyone find the additional features, present in the 1Password Business account, worth to be used even with only 1 member?
Not sure if the questions make sense but any comment or shared experience is more than welcomed! Thanks.
I should first mention that no matter what you pick, if you feel like you've chosen the wrong option, you can always change your account type in the future. 1Password accounts tend to be pretty flexible, and so there's not a ton of pressure on picking the right thing right away.
With that said, if you're the only person using 1Password, this will really come down to what you want out of it. As u/djasonpenney mentions, 1Password Business comes with a lot of additional features that are aimed primarily at administration. If you don't plan on using those features, then 1Password Teams may be a better option for you at work, since it's aimed at smaller work environments. So this will really come down to what sort of work you do and how you feel you'll be using 1Password in the future.
I don't usually recommend using 1Password Families for work, mostly because it's not really aimed at being used in a work environment. And if you're going to be the only one using the account at all, as you seem to be indicating here, then a personal 1Password account for individuals with multiple vaults, with some specifically for work, might also do the trick.
Feel free to write in and ask about it.
I opted for that. 1-person Business account, but have shared with (so far) 3 family members. One I share a single vault with , the other two are private to themselves.
I just thought this made more sense..and I don't really take advantage of the VIP support (but I could...although between reddit and the 1P forum it's been pretty good!!). Price wasn't an issue at the extra few dollars, and it's a business expense.
My home computer is custom-built and significantly beefy-er than my work laptop, so I prefer to use it. My work just got 1Password to manage our passwords, but I'm hesitant to add it on my personal computer.
What data will my employers be able to see?
Can they see what sites I visit? Can they see what I download? (Chrome says I need to allow the software to manage my downloads).
Just how bad of an idea is it, if at all?
I am starting to look at password managers for my company. I have had 1Password in mind for awhile. Does anyone here use it for work and if so what is your experience?
If there are any IT admins here would appreciate your feedback as well!
Thanks!
I use it for work! Just chiming in to say that if you have any questions unrelated to opinion, feel free to send us a quick message and we'd be happy to chat with you about it.
I use it for work (and don’t work for the company). I set it up at work last year after using it personally for many years. (I’m the school IT guy.) I added other users, created separate vaults, and showed office people how to use it.
I hav tried other password managers but never found anything that comes close to 1Password.
DM if you have any questions.
Hi there
I have been using 1Password with my company and I’m very impressed. I current have the iOS app downloaded and I’m signed into my companies account.
I want to create a personal family account for me and my family using 1Password families. How will that interfere with my work account? Will I have to constantly switch between my work account and family account on my phone by logging in and out etc? Or does the 1Password app support multiple accounts eg a work account (which I don’t manage or pay for) and a personal account (which I do manage and pay for)
Apologies if this is confusing, I’ve tried to rewrite it a few times and this is the best I could come up with
Cheers
Consider this scenario in a business environment:
-
User has access to sensitive corporate passwords via 1Password.
-
User has a strong password, but they (stupidly.. as users do) Use that same password on all their personal and potentially even work accounts.
-
User’s device is compromised and hackers get their 1Password file.
-
Hackers search hacked database for compromised sites with users email.
-
Hackers decrypt offline 1Password database.
This is not a far fetched scenario and there are other scenarios where an offline database is a risk.
Has 1Password ever considered or have plans to create an online only mode? This is one thing LastPass does better than 1Password. This would insure 100% that access would terminated as there wouldn’t be any potential for offline databases to be scattered around on devices.
More databases = greater attack surface = less secure
Edit:
To add some justification that my scenario proposed this is a very real threat, consider the recent credentials stuffing attack on last pass. This was against users online databases, where MFA, ip whitelisting and other conditional access measures could be put in place by a business to protect again this, however, none of these measures apply if the hacker obtained access to a local 1Password database. This type of attack on individual users offline database is next and is exactly what I’m describing.

I’ve heard that it isn’t good to sign into your personal vault on your work PC.
I say “I’ve heard” cause I work IT and my computer has ZERO monitoring software on it… might as well be my personal laptop but it was given to me by my employer so obv isn’t.
I’m trying to adjust what I do and limit the number of apps that I have to uninstall next year before I move companies (moving from FL to Seattle) and trying to make sure that IF I do forget something (which I doubt I will but never know) it isn’t something super important like my personal vault.
So, not sure what I should do. I currently use BW free for work + BW premium for personal and share an organization between them for accounts I’ll access both places. The problem I have with that though is that these premium features:
2FA Codes
Attachments
Are not available on my work PC or my org. Setting up the org account is $40/year (too expensive since it is just me) and setting up the work would make it $20/year which is the same price as 1P (with a student discount) and since I’m considering it anyway I’m curious how people use 1P for work + personal.
Hi all. Long term 1password family user here working for a small 3 person company using LastPass. Oh dear!
So we’re moving away from LastPass and I’m wondering if 1password would be best for us rather than bitwarden but looking at the pricing for bitwarden’s teams account ($3 per user/month vs 1password’s $19.95 a month for up to 10 people) we might end up going to bitwarden. ($9 vs $19 a month)
Is there any benefit or additional security that 1password offers that could sway the company to move to 1password instead?
The other option is a 1password families account for $5 a month but I think there’d probably be some T&Cs issues?
Business wise, there is a single owner, a single employee (me) and an as and when helper for the bookkeeping. So not exactly a massive business….
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Just my personal opinion, but I would use the 1Password Family. 1) You are already familiar with 1Password and can troubleshoot it for them. 2) You can add the account to your existing account and use one interface to manage yours and theirs. (switch between the two) 3) You really do not need all the extra granular security management tools, etc. for that few of people. You are not IBM. 4) You can always upgrade/change account type later to business if you need too.
1Password's secret key on top of the master password is the greatest security motivation in my opinion. That is an additional security benefit, but I'm sure you already know all of that. I would go the 1Password simple route and upgrade if need be. You do not have to call it "Family". You might even get away with a single plan, but at least the Family plan would give you some security ability over vaults, and the book keeper and owner could have separate accounts and share the one Vault business account. That way, all their personal logins will go into their own private vaults, and you can move them to the shared business vault by using your own client 1Password App. I don't see how you will be able to manage and support Bitwarden and 1Password running together. Just my 2 cents.
I would do go for self-hosted Bitwarden or Vaultwarden. Pretty easy to setup, especially you have a NAS device that supports this... Vaultwarden is free last time I checked.
Hi all,
Looking to replace Lastpass - what's the current best in class? Needs to support shared vaults and centrally managed accounts.
Thanks!
I’m in favor of using password managers such as BitWarden with a secure master and MFA. I work as a software engineer at my company and have been wanting to pitch the idea that we would benefit from getting a business account(s) for our some 500+ users. This way IT can manage the policies for the passwords and we can have everything a little more centralized for the user base and all of our numerous passwords being used can be longer, more complex and overall more secure while still being readily available and easily changed by the user. What are some reasons a business would not want to do something like this, and what would be some hurdles that I would want to consider before bringing this up?
EDIT: if you have recommendations other than BitWarden I’d also appreciate hearing about them and why, thank you!
I mostly use my own Mac for work because I cannot work out how to use my personal subscription to 1Password on my work-administered Mac, so I have no access to my usual passwords. My work machine has sat in a closet for 5 years, and I've just been offered an upgrade(!), but without access to 1Password, it seems to have the functionality of a Chromebook. Am I missing something?
- Is using the 1Password browser extension on a work-administered Mac safe?
- Is there anything I need to be aware of in terms of setup and keeping access to my 1Password account secure?
(My workplace keeps our machines locked down tight with minimal software on them, but they won't provide a password manager 'for lack of budget', so we all use the same password for everything and never change it!)
Note: Should add I had a good google before asking this but it seems similar questions are years old now and things change fast, so asking here.
I run a small business with 2 other people, so no IT department other than whoever it good at this particular thing. All relatively tech savvy.
We need to beef up our security and I want everyone to switch to 1Password. I've been using it for over a year now and fully "get it", so will set the others up for them, as it is a bit daunting for a first timer.
Only thing I dont know is I have no experience using it on iOS. I have android phone and occasionally have issues when Google or Samsung password managers will try to get in the way, but I can deal with that. If they have similar issues, I fear they wont use it.
See this is the issue, I am having to argue with them stuff like how using the same password for everything is a bad idea, and now we have serious money coming through the company we could get targetted. I have no power over them, so if they find this too inconvenient, they'll just not use it and we'll be at risk.
TL;DR - is 1password on iOS working seamlessly and easily integrated enough that disinterested business partners would actually use it?
I've been doing some research for several hours and I've narrowed down my options for a business password manager to 1Password and NordPass. I've read a lot of great things about 1Password, but I've also noticed that NordPass is becoming a leading contender, with many people suggesting it's even better than 1Password. Opinions are divided, but there seems to be a trend among specialists leaning towards NordPass.
Personally, I prefer NordPass's design, but I appreciate 1Password's mission and the direction they are heading, along with their long-standing presence in the market. I'm planning to not only set up a password manager for my business but also migrate my personal passwords from my old manager to a new one.
My main concern is which of these two tools allows for a smoother switching between my personal and business vaults. I want to know if NordPass or 1Password is better suited for this kind of seamless switching. I'll be spending most of my time in my personal vault, but occasionally, I'll need to switch to the business vault.
Additionally, autofill functionality is crucial for me, and I've heard mixed reviews about both. Some say NordPass is better, while others prefer 1Password.
Does anyone have experience with both tools and can provide some insight on which one offers a better experience for managing both personal and business passwords, particularly with seamless switching and autofill performance?
Thanks in advance!
Our small IT team uses 1Password, but we need something for ~70 staff across the whole company. The costs for Keeper or 1Password (around £57.80 or £73.92 per user/year) seem steep. Has anyone tried just using the built-in password managers in Chrome or Edge? Can you enforce governance/complexity rules with them? Any real-world tips on whether it’s worth paying for a dedicated manager, or do the free browser solutions cut it in practice?
So I have a family 1password account and it works great. We have a few vaults including one I share with my wife.
I am doing work for a small organization that needs, badly, to improve security. I want to introduce 1password there. I have some responsibility in that organization and my hope is that once they setup a vault or two, that they can share a vault with me. They are very small and would probably have three 1password users, I would be the 4th.
What are my vault sharing options?
-
can they share a vault with me without me needing a second 1Password identity?
-
would I have to create a second 1password account for sharing with the organization?
Just trying to understand how two "organizations" can share.
Hey All,
I've been evaluating switching over from LastPass for Business to 1Password Business (and Bitwarden Enterprise), and was hoping to get some clarification on a couple of things.
-
With LastPass Enterprise, we had SSO implemented w/ Okta, meaning our users weren't required to enter Master Passwords when signing in. While I'm not a fan of the security implications of this, it's what our users are now used to. My upper management feels using master passwords again is a step backwards. I was happy to see that 1Password w/ SSO has been announced, but there wasn't a whole lot of info around timeframes and how to join the public beta. Can anyone provide any additional info?
-
It appears that the Security Policies do not include controls for things like Auto-lock & Clipboard. Am I missing something, or are those not centrally manageable polices?
-
My management brought up the fact that while we can specify length and complexity of passwords, our SOC2 password polices state that passwords must be rotated. I know that the effectiveness of password rotation has been debated, but the fact of the matter is that it's part of our policy (and part of other enterprises, I would think). Any way to enforce that?
Really enjoying 1Password so far, I just need to get over these hurdles. Thanks all, and stay secure!
My company has last pass and I even get a free family last pass account. But after the breach and everything I have heard, I'm not sure if that's worth it. Should I just use 1password?
Any other alternative? Like Google password manager or Samsung password manager? Or should I use those as backups?
