Yes!!! We love 1Password but there is no way I can get clients to pay that amount. it is so high it is nearly impossible to bury in the managed bundle. It needs to be about $1/mo, imho. And most customers don’t need all the team and sharing features. They’d be fine with a simple standalone license for each user. Start small since it’s such a lift to get customers to even understand why they need to use a password manager in the first place. Also for the average user it is a little complicated to use and figure out. Edit to add: we tried Keeper and it was a failure. Clients complained they couldn’t figure it out (and it too was expensive I thought). (We also personally didn’t like Keeper at all and I forget now what the issues were. ). At present we help clients purchase/use the password manager of their choice. Which I guess is better than nothing. Answer from realdlc on reddit.com

r/1Password on Reddit: 1password prices
January 21, 2025 -

In a forward-looking perspective, how likely is it that 1Password will decide to increase the prices of its plans? I'm considering using a password manager in my life, and I want to choose one to use, not forever, but for a long period of time. The current prices of 1Password are fine for me, but I wouldn't want to be forced to switch after a few years because it has become too expensive. So I wanted to ask: over the years, has 1Password frequently raised its prices? Could it do so in the future? Or is it likely that the cost of the various plans will remain the same forever?

r/1Password on Reddit: Why is 1P subscription so expensive?
December 16, 2022 -

I’m a longtime 1P user however I have the old 1P 7 which I purchased the lifetime sub. 1P then refused to keep updating when they switched to the subscription model which I get so that they keep steady income flow which I get. My question is, why is 1P $5 a month for a family? Or even more expensive $3 a month for individual? To put in perspective other subscription services such as Amazon offer countless benefits such as unlimited photo storage, video streaming library and unlimited shipping just to mention a few for $11 a month. Walmart has similar subscription model with a ton of benefits for under $10 a month. Netflix spends billions a year in generating content and the cheapest option is like $7 a month. Then there is 1P charging $5 a month to store 150mb of encrypted data 🤷🏻‍♂️ on their servers month after month with no major improvements. Do they offer a million dollar policy for data breaches or any other benefit? They don’t. I honestly don’t see any reasoning why the service should be that much other than taking advantage of a loyal customer base. If anyone knows why please explain…

r/1Password on Reddit: 1Password is too costly for Canadians.
February 28, 2019 -

I have been a 1Password user since about 2013. Back then it was the good ol' days where you would pay for software once and then use it. If you wanted to upgrade, you paid for it.

A while ago they went the way of most companies and implemented a subscription model, but because 1Password6 was working well and because I didn't like the price, I didn't upgrade.

Recently I updated my computer and of course Safari 13 does not allow the extension to work. The only way is of course to upgrade. So I went and looked at the current pricing structure.

I was disappointed to see that as a Canadian, the price is just too high. After exchange rates, this software comes in at about $80... per year. Sure, I realize $80 isn't exactly going to break the bank, but it feels too expensive for something I use only a few times a week if that.

If I compare that to other subscription services... take Microsoft Office for example ($115/y) the value for money is just not there.

So, I am trying to decide. Do I try out one of the other password managers? Do I stick with KeyChain?

Thoughts?

October 14, 2021 - I’ll wait until it’s ending and observe Proton Pass’s evolution during that time. If it worth to change, I’ll move out from 1Password to Proton Pass. ... I paid 12 euro for ProtonPass in case they make it a ton better, locking in a cheaper long term price, but its currently integration needs a lot of work to come even close.

I just read the message about the new round of funding - good for you I suppose.

I then went to check my billing to see when I would be paying for my renewal. What do you know? It says I am signed up for the Families plan at the rate of $5.49 per month, billed annually.

Pricing on billing page

Well, that's not what I signed up for. The Family pricing I paid and still listed on the pricing page is $4.99 per month.

Please tell me we are not about to see a 10% price increase that affects existing subscribers.

Right now 1password charges, 36 dollars a year for standalone user, and 60 dollars for a family of 5. That's 6 times more than Bitwarden which offers a decent product.

Could 1password reduce the prices a little and maybe offer a single use license for 20, and 2 person for 30? I can understand charging 60 for 5.

March 17, 2024 -

Hey 1password community,

I just saw online that the current (European) pricing is €4,75 for a family plan. I'm currently on a family plan that I got years ago through the App / iTunes store from Apple and I'm paying 7,50 per month. I want to make use if the 4,75 pricing but I can't really find out how.

I'm making use of the 1password desktop app for Mac, the iOS app and the extension for the web browser that I use. In my ideal scenario I don't want to freeze my account because I have friends and family members making use of my family plan. But if there is no other option please also tell me so.

Anybody that can help me with the easiest way how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

r/ProtonPass on Reddit: Why is Proton Pass Plus more expensive than 1Password?
June 3, 2025 -

I’ve been thinking about the pricing for Proton Pass Plus; it's currently $4.99/month, while 1Password, for example, is priced at $3.99/month for individual users.
It feels a bit off considering Proton always markets itself as a privacy-first company, advocating for accessible and secure tools for everyone. Shouldn't that also be reflected in the pricing, especially since Proton Pass is still catching up on core features?
Don't get me wrong, I support Proton’s mission and use several of their products, but if privacy is truly the goal, then making their tools both usable and affordable should be a top priority. Price matters, especially when you're trying to convince people to switch from established players.
Would love to hear what you guys think. Is the current pricing justified?

r/1Password on Reddit: Reasons to come to 1Password and pay 6 times more
June 5, 2023 -

Hello there.

I am a Bitwarden user, and since I did the 1Password trial I am tempted to come to this password service. Being user of the Apple devices, this is what I like the most about service:

- Unlock 1P with Apple Watch being in my Mac.

- A more beautiful UI, with the feeling of all being more polished.

- It has the options I like the most about Bitwarden, so no pain in changing.

But, the problem is that Bitwarden costs 10 euro per year, and 1Password is much more expensive. So this is why I decided to come here, to ask the users of the services about other things that maybe I dont know, services or options that could be a convincing point for moving here.

Thank you all.

Reasons why I moved from my previous PW Manager to 1PW: Security: The Security Key concept that 1P implements is great! Even if you have a very weak master password (which of course I would not recommend) is still a verry difficult nut to crack Security audits. Both within and conducted by 3rd party companies/individuals Their R&D and their membership with the FIDO alliance. Cant wait for passkeys to be available in the public stable release (currently in beta) Reasons why I prefer 1P even more: Built-in 2FA OTP that's TOTP compliant. Yes yes, there's a major discussion about it's better to have a separate MFA app, but heck for non-critical logins/accounts, you can now enable 2FA on them without worrying of another app. Before I had two MFAs one MFA for critical accounts , and another for non-critical accounts (like login to reddit, discord apps). But now, I basically transferred all my MFA capabilities for my non-critical accounts to 1P Support. Biiiiiiiig difference from the support from my previous PW manager to 1P. To be fair, i havent had any concerns yet that needed raising, but considering they're quite active even on reddit! Yes they reply to your concerns here too; I'm glad i switched I was contemplating before between BW and 1P as well, but decided to stick to 1P -Better UI and experience -As I said, built-in MFA -Same price as my previous PWM -Major factor; EASY migration; daaamn so straight forward (to give you context, I came from LastPass and 1P migration is leagues better than bitwarden -- basically 1P can import EVERYTHING including files (one click and boom! I was done) vs. Bitwarden=export CSV only - basically user/pass only. If you have files, you have to transfer it manually.

I moved my company from LastPass to 1Password because of 1Password's vault capabilities. Not sure if that's relevant for bitwarden or not.
