Dell Latitude 7410 dead and amber light as long power button is pressed. - Badcaps
December 21, 2024 - I received a bios locked 7410 with 25Q256JVEQ ,i dump the bios, unlocked it and flash it back, since then the laptop has no life signs at all except amber led on for as long the power button is pressed, nothing else. Fact #1 i was unaware that 25Q256JVEQ is 3.3v and i used a 5v CH341A to program it, not sure if the chip got damaged but since then i can read it and write it normally, doesn't seem dead.

I got a Latitude 7410 with a broken keyboard, touchpad, and bad battery, but it would still boot to bios. So, I took it apart and replaced the keyboard, palmrest, touchpad, and battery. However, after replacing everything, it would not boot.
I was able to get into recovery by holding esc and ctrl, but the screen would not turn on and the light would flash 3 amber then 3 white. I checked the connections to the motherboard and reseated the lcd connectors. Is there anything that could be done, or is the motherboard damaged or something? I tried hooking up a flash drive with the bios to see if it would automatically load the bios, but that didn't seem to make a difference.
I am using an nvme from another machine that was upgraded, so it would have an OS. Not to mention I would think that it would at least boot to bios. Any help is appreciated.
Edit: Looks like it's giving the code for the recovery since it's not found on the boot drive. I'm more worried about why it's not starting now.

Just wondering how you made out with your Dell's bootup BIOS errors. I too have the 3-amber and 3-white blinks. I've worked on it for several days trying so many things and I think it's just a system board failure. I can get it to show anything on the screen using the CTRL+ESC then plug-in, F12, boot from bootable USB, etc. etc. etc. The memory and SSD are fine as I've tested them in other machines. Sad for anyone that's outside of a Dell warranty. The Dell Latitudes just get bricked it would seem.

@JessWong666 those codes are uniform across the last few generations of Latitudes. To get an accurate diagnostics sequence it's recommended that you try a diagnostic boot by holding down the Fn key and powering on the system. The system will then flash the power button in sequence to advise what fault its encountering. It is true that it's not documented, but historical posts have shown it to be a fault on one of the power rails on the system board - the only real solution is to replace the board.

So Today I had 2 different 7550s not turn on, both had the 2 amber 5 white error code. So we tried taking the ram out and testing one stick at a time and in different slots underneath and no go.
The fix was to move both ram sticks to under the keyboard and then it boots with no issues.
Its weird that I had two different laptops in two different offices experience this same issue today. Is there any bios updates that pushed out that could have caused this?

I’ve had this issue for over a year and it seems to pop up around BIOS updates. A co-worker and I both had it happen last week, and each of us has had it happen once this week. Our solution has been to pop a stick of RAM out, turn on the machine and it recognizes the memory change, and then turn it off to put the stick of RAM back in. This week is odd because there are no BIOS updates listed in Dell Command, and we’re on 1.21.0. Our RAM sticks are under the back cover. We haven’t done anything with the slots under the keyboard. It will be interesting to see if your movement to under the keyboard is a long term solution, or if it’s just a variation of what we’ve been doing where the laptop recognizes a memory configuration change. The new laptops our company has been rolling out are much slower than the 7550, so an occasional 10 minute “RAM swaparoo” isn’t that bad when looking at the alternative.

This worked for me. I had to move them to behind the keyboard. Just disconnecting one or the other didnt work.

Memory or Read-Only Memory (ROM) failure If competent, take the memory out and try the following - if there are two DIMMS then try each one in each slot to see if there is any change, if just one DIMM the try both slots and also try no RAM installed and it should produce a 2,3 code. RAM issue, visually inspect it to see if any chip looks damaged on the sticks If no visible damages, install one at the time and see if anything changes If nothing happens after the test you might need new ram, if even with new ram fails, it’s a Motherboard issue

Does anyone know what 8 white followed by 2 amber flashing diagnostic lights mean? On the diagnostic reference sheets they only go up to 7 white 2 amber.
The device is a 7390 2 in 1 xps 13in, apart from the constant flashing I'm not noticing anything actually wrong with the laptop.
