Hi all, I came in late here, hope to be of some assistance.. My lapsolved' however none of these repair procedures worked at least for my specific model. Here is the issue: rebooted Laptop, keyboard lights, power light functions. No LCD display (blank). While pressing 'D' and power button simultaneously, the LCD screen checks ok flashing red, blue, green etc... LED status: 5 white and 2 amber flashing with interprets to a memory issue (or similar). Here are the steps that resolved my issue (of course remove all static that may be present): Pull or unplug the charger Remove Laptop Battery REMOVE CMOS BATTERY/LEAD from mother board Plug in the charger/AC and power on the laptop for approx. 15 seconds then remove the charger/AC. IMPORTANT: Remove the memory module from slot 'DIMM 1' and re-install to slot 'DIMM 2'. Plug in CMOS battery/lead Re-install the Laptop Battery Plug in the charger Power up the Laptop This worked and allowed me back into the BIOS Hope this helps.. Answer from pbxcomm on dell.com

So Today I had 2 different 7550s not turn on, both had the 2 amber 5 white error code. So we tried taking the ram out and testing one stick at a time and in different slots underneath and no go.
The fix was to move both ram sticks to under the keyboard and then it boots with no issues.
Its weird that I had two different laptops in two different offices experience this same issue today. Is there any bios updates that pushed out that could have caused this?

I’ve had this issue for over a year and it seems to pop up around BIOS updates. A co-worker and I both had it happen last week, and each of us has had it happen once this week. Our solution has been to pop a stick of RAM out, turn on the machine and it recognizes the memory change, and then turn it off to put the stick of RAM back in. This week is odd because there are no BIOS updates listed in Dell Command, and we’re on 1.21.0. Our RAM sticks are under the back cover. We haven’t done anything with the slots under the keyboard. It will be interesting to see if your movement to under the keyboard is a long term solution, or if it’s just a variation of what we’ve been doing where the laptop recognizes a memory configuration change. The new laptops our company has been rolling out are much slower than the 7550, so an occasional 10 minute “RAM swaparoo” isn’t that bad when looking at the alternative.

This worked for me. I had to move them to behind the keyboard. Just disconnecting one or the other didnt work.

Does anyone know what 8 white followed by 2 amber flashing diagnostic lights mean? On the diagnostic reference sheets they only go up to 7 white 2 amber.
The device is a 7390 2 in 1 xps 13in, apart from the constant flashing I'm not noticing anything actually wrong with the laptop.

Hi, anyone ever encountered that strange blinking pattern? Basically after I press the power button, it starts this sequence and nothing else happens. When I press power button again the fans go all-out for a second, then harddisk led blinks once and laptop turns off. Happening in all modes i.e. battery+AC, only battery, only AC.
Tried this "cold boot" i.e. battery out, no AC, press power button for 30secs but to no avail (both when connecting just AC or inserting just battery after).
Laptop worked fine,then kind of freezed (no reaction on any button/combination,screen showing "last browsed page") and after reset I got this "surprise state".
Any help highly appreciated. Though I fear it will end up with "replace motherboard" again...sometimes wonder how many motherboards Dell has for one laptop lol.

I had the same thing happen with my xps 13, though it was 4 white, then 2 amber, then a max speed fan burst and then it turns off (sequence order seems different). However, since you mentioned that the ssd/hdd light goes on for a second, I think you may have the same "issue" I had. Disclaimer: First of all, if you attempt this, do so at your own risk. I am not responsible for any damage or loss that may occur. You bear full responsibility for any undesirable outcomes. I am not sure if this will void your warranty, so be aware that it may void your warranty. Not sure if your model has an ssd, hdd or both, but here is what I did. Open up the bottom lid and disconnect the battery connector from the motherboard. Unplug/remove your ssd/hdd/both. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds or so. Reconnect the ssd/hdd/both. Reconnect the battery connector to the motherboard. Power on the laptop. This fixed it for me, although your milage may vary. I powered on the laptop on battery before plugging it in. Not sure if that makes a difference. Let me know if that works for you. Good luck!
