Hello, my fellow le creuset-lers! I found this little baby in a thrift store. Poor thing was beyond dirty, but I just couldn’t leave it there, so I took a risk and brought it home. Luckily, after cleaning, there’s no damage to enamel except for those left by metal utensils. So, my question is - what can you cook in such a small, 2qt (1.8L) Dutch oven? If you have one, what do you use it for? Thank you!
Hi, for those who have used a LC 2 quart DO, what do you think about it? I picked one up on sale. I haven't cooked in a few years due to a life change but now beginning to cook again. I already own a bunch of LC, I cook for one, and what I cook is mostly seafood, veggies, and I do not like to freeze leftovers. The reason I am reaching for the smaller size is because, with years, my 5.5 qt rarely ever gets used, and even my 3.5 seems a bit big, though I make pasta sauce or curry in it on occasion. So I thought perhaps I will start making a one pot meal kinda thing in the 2 quart oven (it's brand new and still returnable), and maybe also pick up a 2.5 quart "french oven" on sale currently at WM, though that might be an overkill as I already do have the 2.25 cast iron combo pan. But then is 2 quart DO just too small to do anything other than perhaps just throw in some veggies and a fish fillet to slowcook? (That is the only use I can think of for the moment, as I use rice cooker for rice, and I don't bake bread in my LC). I can see from reading postings that everyone's needs and taste are so different (basically, I am not making a whole chicken for a family of four) but even so, it's hard to figure out the right purchase which I won't regret, and would love any input from those who have used either? Thank you.
There are plenty of veggie stews and fish stews that would benefit from cooking in LC cookware. The smaller pan can be better for small portion casseroles.
Between the pieces you already have, I don’t think the 2qt DO is going to be life changing for you. You can probably use one of your other pieces to accomplish anything you would end up making in the new piece.
What does your typical home cooked meal look like? Are there any dishes that are frustrating you? Is there anything you want to try making but you feel like you don’t have the right piece of cookware for the job?
The 2.25 quart braiser sounds perfect for you. It's not on sale though.
