Is 200k words too much? For a first novel going through the traditional publishing system, generally the answer is yes, as longer books are generally harder to sell (not to mention cost more to print, though this is less important than it used to be) and first-time novelists already have an uphill climb. So both agents and publishers are less willing to take on longer books from first-time novelists. My information might be out of date, but I think a maximum 100-120k is the rule of thumb. Also, a series is much easier to get published if you successfully publish a standalone novel first. Even better if you get two standalone novels published and selling. Keep in mind that the average properly formatted manuscript submitted to a publisher is about 250 words per page. Do YOU want to receive 800 A4-sized sheets of paper from someone you never met? and I can't delete descriptive paragraphs cause the reader will be left in a blank room setting. I think that this is probably not true. Character actions are more important than detailed setting descriptions. Prose is not a visual medium, so you don't need to describe things in rich visual detail, because more than likely, the reader won't envision any of it the way you describe. Bit long for a novel. If you’re only 3/4 of the way through it will be 350,000. Typical novel is 120,000 tops. I’m glad you’re having fun but if you plan on publishing it people will be turned off by the page count. Big accomplishment though!! More on reddit.com
