Hi everyone,
I'm a video editor who mainly edits 1080p footage on the go. For 4K projects, I use a powerful desktop PC at home. My priority is a compact and portable device (hence the 13-inch size) for on-location work. I primarily use it for browsing, light editing in Adobe Premiere Pro, and connecting to external storage via a Thunderbolt 4 enclosure. Since I keep project files on external drives, the minimum 256GB of storage isn't a concern.
However, I'm torn between two options:
-
M2 MacBook Pro 13" (2022, 8GB RAM): This is the only Pro model in my budget, but I'm unsure if the M2 chip is still relevant in 2024 compared to the newer M3.
-
M3 MacBook Air (8GB RAM): This seems like a good contender, but I've read mixed reviews about its heating due to being fanless, and speaker quality is not that good.
I've been bombarded with YouTube reviews and feel quite confused. Since I need a laptop soon, any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Additional Information:
-
My budget allows for the base models of either laptop. (Prices are the same in local currency.)
-
Portability is a key factor (13-inch preferred).
-
I primarily edit 1080p footage (with occasional need for light 4K editing).
-
I use Adobe Premiere Pro for editing.
-
I have a Thunderbolt 4 enclosure for external storage.
-
256GB of internal storage is sufficient for my workflow.
Thanks in advance for your help!
