How can I avoid common errors when filing my IRS 1040 Tax Table?
What should I do if I make a mistake on my IRS 1040 Tax Table?
How can I check the status of my IRS 1040 Tax Table submission?
I'm starting my 2023 returns, and while my taxable income in 2023 is actually slightly less than 2022, for some reason I owe taxes this year, while last year I received a return. Trying to figure out what changed. I have two incomes, with my main source being variable, and my secondary being stable. Any advice would be appreciated. (Detail to income, while the variable income did change, it was <1000.)
EDIT: I understand now that Line 16 is from the tax tables. Looks like the difference in my taxes is now this year I have some taxes in Line 23 that I need to figure out the source of.
EDIT 2: I used a W2 parser for the first time instead of manual entry. It misread my Box 12 "W" as "N", which created this extra tax in Line 23. Very silly mistake...thanks to everyone who took the time to answer, I still learned a bit more about the 1040 than I knew previously.
