All you have to learn about serial connector pinouts
October 3, 2024 - RS232C retains the features of RS232 but uses 25 pins rather than a 9 pin serial pinout.
What is this 25 pin connecter?
People seem to be making some assumptions here. Let's get this clear: You have three parts: 1) a keyboard, 2) a monitor, 3) a box which is the main part of the terminal? And this connector you are showing is on a cable coming out of the monitor, which presumably is to be connected to the terminal main unit? And then the terminal is connected to an IBM mainframe via a twinax cable, correct? The connector is a DB-25, but that is a generic connector used for a thousand different, incompatible, purposes. These include RS232 serial ports and PC-style parallel printer ports, but there are any number of other possible uses. More on reddit.com
[SOLVED] Plotter cable DB9 to DB25 pinout?
I'm wondering if anyone could help ... serial cable. A friend has this old plotter, from late 90's that has DB25 serial input. I'm trying to hook it up to a DB9, actually USB -> DB9 ->DB25. (the USB to serial outputs +-10v). I found a user manual and a service manual. I got the Tx and Rx pins figured out, but I can't figure out the pins for the flow control. ... Can a parallel male/male DB25 cable replace a SCSI cable?
The 25-pin SCSI standard is just male-male 25-pins straight-through. Shielding is helpful for longer runs, but 3-6 feet is probably ok with unshielded as well. Note that cables sold specifically as parallel printer cables may not actually have all 25 pins wired through. More on reddit.com
Does RS232 play any role in modern computers?
Most industrial automation and surveying laboratories continue to use serial port technology in spite of its limitations. The re-introduction of DB-9M connector on the Tecra personal computer by Toshiba proves that these standards are here to stay for now. Despite their differences both USB and RS-232 standards support most software programs in major operating systems.

DB25 serial cable pinout? - General Electronics - Arduino Forum
November 6, 2019 - Hi all, After an hour of googling, I concede to ask this seemingly dumb question here; How is a typical printer cable wired? Is it as I suspect; 17 usable signal pins, and 8 pins that are clustered together to be used as GND? Or are there components hidden in the connector?

1 month ago - However, there are devices with all sorts of connector gender/pin definitions combinations. For example, a terminal that has onboard female connectors to come with a cable that has a male connector at each end fully meets the RS-232 standard. Up to revision C, the standard recommends using D-subminiature 25-pin connector, though it’s mandatory as of revision D only.

That proprietary interface is for an IBM 3197 terminal's monitor. It is how the monitor communicates and even provides power to the "logic element". See https://bitsavers.org/pdf/ibm/3197/GA18-2546-1_3197_Model_D_Display_Station_Setup_Instructions_198704.pdf . People need to stop inferring interfaces based on a connector's shape, gender, and pin count. It appears to be a female DB25. Period. You don't know anything about the signaling. We here don't even know anything about it electrically!

Note: Leave all pins not specified above unconnected. RS 530-A defines the pinout when using either balanced RS-422 (and RS-485) or unbalanced RS-423 using a DB25 connector. The A (+) and B (-) below refer to each signal pair used in balanced serial interfaces (A+ is non-inverting, B- is inverting).
