A mid level antique store, of the "antique mall" variety, is a good bet. You can probably find some solid wood pieces from the 80's and 90's, maybe the 70's, for a good price. My last find was two glass topped end tables made of pretty hefty bamboo for $200 total. They don't look old in an antique sense, just expensive. More on reddit.com

I made my first drawer on a shop cart for the first time last week using scrap plywood and side bearing rails. It wasn't pretty but was good practice. Learned some things like: "The quarter-quarter-quarter method" (or half-half-half) to making strong joints on a drawer box with a table saw and dado blade. Using a line to align the center of the rail on the inside of the cabinet made it easy to attach the rail. Could see the line through the holes and just screw it in. Using credit cards or small stacks of playing cards to align the drawer faces and attach to drawer box. Can work from bottom up attaching the first face, place spacer cards on top, and place next face panel on top of the spacers. To attach the face, can use the holes for the handles to secure to the box temporarily, then pull out the drawer and secure it from the inside. Removed the front screws afterwards. I messed up the measurement for the width of the drawer box as it fits into the cabinet - it was about 1/8" too tight to fit the drawer in between the rails. To fix, I routed a strip out of one of the sides of the drawer box to inset the rail. I thought that maybe if the opposite ever happened, where the drawer was too loose, some shims could be used on the rails to make them wider. Give it a try! More on reddit.com

Go to vintage/antique stores. A lot of older stuff is made from solid wood. I have the same issue with modern furniture. So much of it is cheap fiberboard. More on reddit.com
