3000VA UPS Runtime Calculator - Estimate 3000VA UPS Backup Time | UPSCalc.com
A 3000VA UPS provides up to 3000 Volt-Amperes of power, which typically translates to around 2400-2700 Watts (depending on the power factor). It is ideal for powering devices such as: ... Total Power Load: The more power your devices consume, the shorter the runtime.

I need a few ~3000VA UPS with decent battery? Choice seems to be: (A) Good UPS, short battery life, (B) Good Battery life, doesn't really work as UPS, (C) functions in both areas but requires permanent install
The short answer is no, you cannot pull three thousand watts for hours for $3k/hr. My general suggestion for UPS is start haunting eBay for a used Eaton and maybe an EBM or two, but uh. You need a few!?!! 3000VAs? And you're actually pulling full load on each of em?? (Don't do this, btw.) Just get the PowerWall, goddamn. If you can get by with one 3000VA, then a single UPS and a stack of extra battery modules starts to make some kind of financial sense again; the Eaton 9SX3000 (~$4.5k) with four EBMs (~$1.4k *4 = $5.6k) should get you around 4 hours of runtime for 1350 watts (and ~11hrs for ~500W)...but at the full 2700W it'll only be ~102 minutes. Battery efficiency tanks with discharge rate. (I'm quite sure Eaton isn't the cheapest option, but they are the option whose graphs I actually trust . Hopefully they'll convey my point about runtime vs load scaling.) More on reddit.com

Anyone run a UPS at below the minimum power level?
Don't quote me on this, but I believe it should work. The min power draw I believe only references the capability of the unit. So if you're pulling 50W, but minimum draw is 200, it'll pull 200W from the wall. At least, I'm 90% sure that's how that works. That being said, if you're just after large runtime, there's not really a reason to get a high capacity unit. Both higher runtime 1500VA, for example, and something like 3000VA both expand that by using more batteries. a 3000VA unit will just use those for more watt capacity, not more runtime. You're much better off for lower power devices, getting something 1500VA or less, so it'll run on a normal US outlet instead of the different style plugs where most in-wall wiring isn't rated for the amperage of, and getting something with either an expansion module, or just a unit with more batteries overall. An expansion might take up more room than a higher capacity UPS, but it also generally will equate to more battery capacity anyway, so you'd be able to run longer on a lower VA UPS with an expansion than you would on a higher VA UPS. How do I determine UPS runtime? Most UPS specification pages don't list battery capacity (Ah) in the specs
The general guidance is not to have your UPS run as long as possible. Your UPS should do one of two things. One option is to run your systems long enough to shut down. The other is to run them long enough for the generators to kick in. Expectations outside these two use cases are very expensive with diminishing returns. More on reddit.com

People also ask

How long can a 3000VA UPS last?
A 3000VA UPS typically provides 2 to 6 minutes at full load (2700 to 3000W), 10 to 20 minutes at half load (1350W), and 30 to 50 minutes at 25 percent load (675W). The exact runtime depends on the model, battery condition, and load characteristics. Models that support external battery packs, like the APC SMX3000LVNC, can extend runtime to 30 minutes or more at high loads. Battery lifespan is typically 3 to 5 years for sealed lead-acid batteries.

What UPS type is best for servers?
For most server deployments, a line-interactive UPS with pure sine wave output provides the best balance of protection, efficiency, and cost. Line-interactive units like the CyberPower PR3000RT2UC and APC Smart-UPS models handle voltage fluctuations efficiently. If your power quality is poor or you run sensitive equipment like SAN storage, an online double-conversion UPS like the APC SRT3000 or Eaton SU3000RTXLCD2U provides the cleanest power with zero transfer time.

What is the best UPS for a server rack?
The best 3000VA UPS for a server rack depends on your needs. The CyberPower PR3000RT2UC offers the best overall value with 3000W output, built-in cloud monitoring, and a 3-year warranty covering batteries. For extended runtime, the APC SMX3000LVNC supports external battery packs and includes a network management card. For the cleanest power, the APC Smart-UPS SRT 3000VA uses double-conversion topology to eliminate all power anomalies.

eg.
(A) CyberPower 3000VA
2700Watt, 6 mins at full load $1.3K

(B) Anker SLX F3800
3000W in "UPS Mode"
~80mins at full load, $3K
reports are UPS mode does not work effectively and it won't recharge automatically, so

(C) ~$10K for a powerwall. permanent install.

Are there any products similar to (B), that people have good experience with as a portable or at least not permanently installed UPS that also has a few hours onboard, for ~$3K per hour at ~3000W?

UK, not US - so there may be electrical considerations - but I've been happy with APC 3kW UPS, with the extended run time options that allow chaining of additional battery packs to extend the run time. The packs use standard connectors, provided you get the chemistry right you don't need to source them from APC direct. Alternatively, in your position, I'd look at reconditioned dual conversion UPS (high voltage on the DC side) - they can also be picked up at surplus auctions or from liquidators for sane money, but you'll need both a bit of time & some muscle to move the equipment. Power the dual conversion set from a set of flooded lead acid cells such as a forklift pack, reconfigured for the high voltage requirements. High end gear will allow paralleling, and support 5kW+ loads on each inverter. Bear in mind that what you are trying to achieve is NOT what UPS are designed for, they are intended to provide short duration cover between utility supply failure and gensets coming on line, typically a few minutes at most. That's probably why you are struggling to find the right balance.

r/homelab on Reddit: Anyone run a UPS at below the minimum power level?
November 15, 2021 -

I want to buy a APC 3000VA UPS but notice it says min load is 270W. I will only be using around 50-60W on a normal day. I am after a nice long runtime hence the size.

Will these work on a low draw or will it think it's not being used and shut down?
