Can I use a 5 inch cutting disk in a 4-inch grinder?
You would have to remove the guard. And that is a very bad idea if you're a fan of having your fingers remain attached to your hands. I would go and buy the appropriate size wheel for the grinder you have.

Can you use 4" wheels on a 7" grinder?
Question what size hole grinding disc do I get for a milwaukee fuel 4 1/2 grinder model number 2780-20
Will the HDII fit my grinder?
Absolutely. The industry standard for grinders is as follows: Rotary Tools (i.e. Dremel TM) - 1/8" 3" Cut off tools and Die Grinder - 1/4" & 3/8” 4" Angle Grinder - 5/8" 4-1/2", 5”, 6", 7" Angle Grinder - 7/8" arbor flange for a 5/8\" coarse arbor shaft. At Bad Dog, we find that an HDII with a 7/8\" arbor flange runs truest because it is a more precise fit. The 4-1/2" and 6" Flange wheel use the 5/8\" coarse thread which is standard on ALL grinders. How safe is HDII compare to other wheels?
As safe as they get! Cut-off wheels can be some of the most dangerous tools in a shop. We are not telling you that you don’t need to be wearing safety when using our wheel, however, the 46 diamond grit is embedded on a hard steel plate to ensure that the wheel will not fly apart on you.
What won't the HDII cut?
Wood: It will shape wood well but burns when cutting. Glass: The HDII is too aggressive and leaves a jagged edge.

The safety guard will have to be removed but can it be done?
You would have to remove the guard. And that is a very bad idea if you're a fan of having your fingers remain attached to your hands. I would go and buy the appropriate size wheel for the grinder you have.
Removing the safety guard is BAD.
But what is worse, is the speed of the outside edge of the wheel. 4 inch grinders spin at a certain RPM, and 4 inch disks are capable of handling that. 5 inch disks can’t spin as fast without breaking into pieces and flying everywhere. So if your 5 inch disk goes too fast, it explodes. And you don’t even have a guard on.
I STRONGLY advise you to get a suitable disk and save yourself a potentially lethal incident.
You probably won’t even die, just end up hurt badly. I give it a 0/10, do not recommend.
