If your product is in warranty, you can easily reach out to tech support right here. Just click the Get Help Now button at the bottom right corner of the page. The button is marked with a help icon for easy recognition as per the picture below: Now, if you prefer to troubleshoot your system on your own, please note that a pattern of 2 amber lights and 4 white lights indicates a Memory/RAM failure. Follow these steps to resolve the issue: Shutdown Your Device: Ensure your device is powered off completely. Disconnect Power: Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery (if applicable). Re-seat the Memory Modules: Open the access panel to your device's memory modules. Carefully remove and then re-seat each memory module. Ensure they are properly secured in their slots. Check for Loose Connections: Examine other internal connections, ensuring all components are securely in place. Power On: Reconnect the power adapter and battery, then power on your device. Observe if the issue persists. If reseating the memory doesn't fix the issue, try performing a Hard Reset:  Turn off your computer. Disconnect the power adapter from your computer. Remove the base cover. Disconnect the battery cable. Press and hold the power button for 20-30 seconds to drain the flea power. Install the battery. Install the base cover. Connect the power adapter to your computer. Turn on your computer. Important:  If the pattern of 2 amber and 4 white lights started after a RAM upgrade, it is likely that the RAM is not compatible with the system. Important²: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it is possible that the motherboard may be faulty and require replacement. We recommend contacting technical support by clicking Get Help Now in the bottom right corner of the page, or reaching out to a trusted technician for further assistance. r/Dell on Reddit: Updated my laptop and got 2 amber 4 white lights
September 11, 2025 -

I bought it in 2021, still in good condition. My model is Dell inspir 5000 or maybe 5500.

I noticed there is an update and i cannot shut down witjout it, I updated and now theres 2 amber and 4 white lights. Maybe something related to RAM i guess.

Tried restarting but same issue. Last year had something similar like this took it to Dell showroom. The guy asked it will fix on its own its due to too much humidity.

Does anyone have any suggestions. I really cannot offer a bill at this moment.

The blinking pattern you’re observing on your Dell Inspiron 3558 (4 times amber followed by 1 time white) indicates a Battery Issue. Since your laptop is an older model, it’s possible that the battery has reached the end of its lifespan. Battery Replacement: You’ll need to replace the battery. You can find compatible replacement batteries for your Dell Inspiron 3558. Here’s a link to a replacement battery that you can consider. Battery Report Check: Create a battery report to check the status of your current battery. Open a Command Prompt window (search for 'cmd' in the Start menu). Type the following command and press Enter: powercfg /batteryreport This will generate a battery report. Locate the report file (usually saved in your user folder) and open it. Compare the Design Capacity value with the Full Charge Capacity value. For a healthy battery, these values should be nearly the same. Temporary fix/Workaround: Hard Reset Turn off the laptop. Disconnect  the AC adapter and remove the battery or simply remove the base cover and disconnect the battery cable. Disconnect all devices such as USB drives, printers, webcams, and media cards (SD/xD). Press and hold the power button for 15 to 20 seconds to drain the residual power. Connect the AC adapter and battery. Turn on the computer. If you still need assistance, please contact support by clicking the ‘Get Help Now’ button located at the bottom right corner of the page. The button is marked with a help icon for easy recognition as per the picture below:
