Older house with a land line, switched to VOIP through the internet provider a long time ago. So the coax cable goes into the modem, phone line comes out and goes into a phone jack in the house, and then a phone plugs into the jacks in the rest of the house that I presume are connected to it.
Started renovating, and replaced all electrical outlets and whatnot, and got aroudn to this old crusty thing here
I went to the store and bought a "phone jack" you know, for a phone, only to discover it has 4 pins instead of the 6 on the crusty old one.
How exactly do I handle this? Should I just find a jack that has 6 and re-wire it 1-for-1?

If I'm not mistaken, you're trying to wire a rj11 cable to rj45 socket. The cable in old socket picture looks to be rj11 cable. You most likely need a rj11 jack/ wall plate. Look up rj11 dsl wiring. Some of those use black and red wires. More on reddit.com
