For me it must be "rural research". If I should learn how to pronounce it correctly, I would probably need weeks of practice and help from an English speaking person.

As a non-native English speaker I’d say I mostly struggle with vowel sounds. I’m a native Spanish speaker and the range of vowel sounds that are used in Spanish is laughable compared to English. I was starting my undergrad in English Lit and Linguistics when I finally understood the difference between “cat” and “cut” or “bitch” and “beach.” I still struggle a bit both pronouncing and hearing the difference between “horse” and “wh*res,” the vibration at the end of the second word is almost imperceptible to me. Oh well!

Yes, like you say, people tend to have trouble with “r” and “l” next to each other: squirrel rural There’s a running gag on the American TV show 30 Rock about a movie called “Rural Juror,” which is weird even for natives. Also “th” and “r:” thread thrill English maintaining contrast between: both “th” sounds, “f,” and “v” gives a lot of learners trouble.
