Can someone explain how to tell time in german?
But the easiest method is simply to say: "[hour] Uhr [minutes]", so 4:35 = "vier Uhr fünfunddreißig". There are other methods commonly used in Germany, but at level A1 you don't need to worry about them. EDIT: This is the method usually found in textbooks for students of German as a foreign language. The reason I give this method is that OP is a beginner, and so I'm trying to avoid giving OP information that will be contradicted in the next textbook they pick up. I know most Germans wouldn't say "fünfundzwanzig nach", I just don't think that anything is to be gained by confusing an A1 student. Their knowledge will be refined as they progress through whatever course they're taking, that's how learning works. More on reddit.com

  1. Go online and find some music to listen to and make it a part of your everyday life. One recommendation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqf24-DGvVA

  2. A lot of beginners really enjoy the Deutsche Welle A1 which is totally free: https://www.dw.com/en/learn-german/level-a1/s-13227

  3. If you have Anki, download a deck and start learning. Here's a really basic one (https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1409514856) but definintely browse and try a couple.

How Do You Count in German from 21 to 100?
May 7, 2025 - For the German numbers above 20, think of the English nursery rhyme "Sing a Song of Sixpence" and the line "four and twenty blackbirds" ("baked in a pie"). In German, you say one-and-twenty (einundzwanzig) rather than twenty-one. All of the numbers over 20 work the same way: zweiundzwanzig (22),einundreißig (31), dreiundvierzig (43), etc.
