Anyone got recs for Larger Format Photo Printing?
ELI5 - why are 5x7 photo prints substantially more expensive than 4x6 which are only slightly smaller?
Now, for printed photos (not prints proper but the non photosensitive glossy photo paper that you can buy for your printer) shouldn't be much more money but the reason why professional photographic prints are more expensive may be this.
Standard 35mm film, used to take pictures in the average SLR camera is actually 24mm x 36mm in dimensions. The ratio of which is 2:3 or 4:6. As such, in order to make a 4x6 print nothing special needs to be done to the film to make it nice and neat. 5x7, however, is not the same ratio so when the film is being shone on the photosensitive paper it needs to be worked with to get it to look right which takes a bit more effort on the tech's part. Surprisingly, though, most of the other standard print sizes (8x10, 11x14, 16x20) aren't even in that same ratio, they're closer to the 1.25 aspect ratio as opposed to the 1.5 aspect ratio of the 4x6. This is because film used to be shot vertically as 18mm x 24mm.

More on reddit.comCurious if anyone has a goto photo printing service for 11x14, 16x20, 18x24 sizes? Would prefer places that can do some decent price breaks on volume. I know there are plenty of services that do this online etc but I was looking for something local.
