Best plywood to use for shop cabinets that comes in 4x8 sheets? | Sawmill Creek Woodworking Community
June 18, 2011 - Regional supplies and prices dictate what one can use for cabinets while balancing quality and price. I am using A-2 3/4" oak on an entertainment center. This is the first time I have bought this oak plywood from one of my local lumber yards and I am pleased with it's quality.

Next to the center area will be enclosed areas (left and right of the center area) with doors. Something similar to the image below where the TV sits on top of the unit (but not with the sliding door and hardware shown in the image). They asked for the top to be stained a dark color, the door stained a dark color and the rest painted black. My initial thoughts are to build the carcass out of 3/4" plywood and use solid lumber for the top, doors and trim.

Plywood Entertainment Center : 6 Steps - Instructables
August 9, 2021 - So, near the end of the build I decided to make three legs that spanned the width/depth of the cabinet because I knew it would be holding a lot of weight (large TV and DVD/VHS items). I literally just glued a few pieces of plywood together (I may have added a screw or two) and cut a nice angle (I forget which degree) and glued them to the bottom of the unit.

Your tastes might be Mission-style or Shaker, and you might be used to working with plywood or fine cherry. No matter, you'll find options clearly described, your questions answered in advance, and your worries defused by Schultz leads you step by step through your project. There's no skimming over details in Build Your Own Entertainment Centers. Whether the subject is as basic as stock selection or as potentially intimidating as finishing; whether it involves producing flawless 90-degree angles when muscling around 4x8 sheets of plywood or cutting the delicate facets of half-blind dovetails, Schultz takes the time to make things clear.

How to Build a DIY Entertainment Center with Storage
April 30, 2025 - Now the two side cabinets are finished (except for shelves and doors–we will come back to that later), so it’s time to build the center cabinet to go between them. This cabinet, just like the others, is made with ¾″ plywood for the main body. So I cut two tall side panels and a top and middle shelf to run between them.

How to Make a DIY Entertainment Center Look Professional
September 22, 2025 - I don’t want a toe-kick on my entertainment center so I didn’t include this in my measurements. If your cabinets will have a face frame, and you want everything to be flush to the floor instead of set back, make accommodations for that in your base dimensions. I built my base out of leftover maple from the sheets that I ripped down on another project. Ripping down a sheet of plywood means that I took a large 8′ x 4′ sheet of wood and cut it into the sizes that I needed for the shelves and cabinets with my saw.

r/woodworking on Reddit: Plywood or solid wood for tv stand?
October 5, 2020 -

Hey all,

So I've recently gotten into woodworking and I just finished my first iteration of my workshop and think I'm ready to try some simple furniture.

This may be a stupid question, but I'm wondering if I should build a tv stand out of plywood or solid wood. I want to build it out of Ash wood, and ideally I'd like to use ash ply since I don't have a planer, but only if the cons of using plywood aren't too great.

What are the pros and cons of both and what would people recommend for a first project?

Thanks for all advice.

May 22, 2015 - To keep costs down without sacrificing quality, all major panels are cut from durable, affordable birch plywood. The face frames are built from poplar and assembled with pocket hole joinery for strength and ease. Clean lines, divided-light doors, simple moldings, and a bold two-tone finish give this entertainment center its modern appeal while keeping the build straightforward and accessible.

December 4, 2003 - I am very satisfied with the plan and the result. I used cherry plywood and cherry instead of the maple plywood and maple the article suggests and made the raised door panels from mesquite instead of cherry. The only issue is that it is HEAVY, but that mey be inherent in entertainment centers of that size.
