Hey guys, ideally I’d love to buy a 50” LG C4, but it costs $1700 CAD. I’d love to come in under that price, but the only next options I see are like Samsung q60d for $700.
This TV gets slammed everywhere and they all say TCL is better for the $$.
Problem with that recommendation is any TCL that is better is at minimum 55”. Or not available in Canada.
My criteria is under $1000, 48 or 50”. And a TV that is not slammed by people on Reddit. What’s the options? What would you guys recommend?
This will be in my living room with windows everywhere. Mostly tv shows and movies.

We currently have a 4K 55” TCL Roku TV that I think we got for about $400 almost 5 years ago. The top row of backlights has gone so considering getting a new one, though it’s still totally watchable. Figured we’d bump up the size by about 10” and the other things we don’t like about our current one is it only has like 2 HDMI inputs (once one has been taken up by our sound bar’s ARC) and also its Roku OS is starting to really slow down now, so something with a decent processor that could run Android TV comfortably for a few more years would be great. It’d also be nice to get something with better backlight technology but I’ve lost track of all the competing technologies out there (OLED, microdot, per pixel illumination?!) and if it’s like $1000s more for that then willing to stick with this basic LED type.
If there’s a better brand or technology that we could try for maybe $100 more, I’d be willing to give it a try, so let me know what’s out there in the “almost budget but not bottom-of-the-barrel” space.
