October 13, 2025 - Why you need it: Metal spoons are easier to clean than their wooden counterparts. They are thin and sturdy, making them better for sliding under a heavy piece of cooked quash. In fact, if you're tossing a pan of roasted vegetables and want to scrape bits off the bottom, having a metal spoon helps. Get one from Amazon for $9.99. Why you need it: Baking is an excellent time to break out one of my favorite silicone kitchen tools.

First, it “flips”, which means that it’s not a bulky tool to store in a drawer, like most potato mashers are. Second, it’s of high quality stainless steel (with no BPA) and is dishwasher safe for easy cleaning. Third, it has only 5 star reviews on Amazon and is very highly recommended. You can’t go wrong with this quality potato masher. A whisk is often one of the most used items in your kitchen, so it’s important to have one that’s ergonomically made.
what are your favorite kitchen equipment must-haves?
One thing that does get enough attention is a good board. You use it more than you think. I have a huge block end butchers board. It used every day. (Separate Plastic boards for fish/Chicken are nice too). More on reddit.com
What are the essential cooking tools a beginner would need in their kitchen?
One cast iron pan, one nonstick pan, one sauce pan with a lid, one small pot with a lid, one cookie sheet. One spatula, one set of tongs, one slotted spoon, one unslotted spoon, one wooden spoon, one medium size whisk. A can opener, a grill lighter, a meat thermometer. A cutting board, a chef’s knife, a paring knife. Get your knives sharpened every 4-6 months even if you think they cut ok. There’s a shop that sharpens knives for like $4 a knife here. It’s a good deal. That’s all I can think of atm If you’re a beginner you’re probably going to destroy most of these items within the next few years. Don’t focus on buying quality brands or items. Focus on buying okish things and learning to take care of them. For instance don’t heat your nonstick pan on high heat. Use a cast iron for high heat, nonstick for medium and low heat. Don’t ever put your hot pans in water, it can warp them. Don’t leave plastic utensils like spatulas sitting in a hot pan - they’ll melt. Stuff like that. More on reddit.com

2 weeks ago - Bacon grease and other cooking fats can clog your drain, which is why I keep this container out on my counter. It can handle hot oils and strain the food bits in the process. March 29, 2022 -
Hello friends!
I am finally moving out and I loooove to cook. I've been using my parents' stuff for ages. Now that I am buying brand new kitchen equipment, I am open to any suggestions on pots/pans, materials like stainless steel vs cast iron, affordable sets, appliances etc.
Anything that you can't live without feel free to comment!
Thank you 😊

A good chefs knife and decent cookware. I use both every single day. Anything else is nice to have, but not a necessity. ( that being said, I have almost every conceivable kitchen appliance known to man)

February 18, 2025 - While this handy tool is advertised as a fish turner, it can be used for anything. The wider base of this tool makes it easy to flip burgers, fish, over-easy eggs, and even pancakes. The thin, beveled edge makes it easy to slide beneath the foods you are flipping, and the slots allow any grease to drain. When you’re setting up your kitchen with the basics, you want to make sure you have a good, sharp peeler to remove the peels of vegetables, shave off cheese, or make veggie ribbons.
