r/Amd on Reddit: 5800x PBO Undervolting - Curve Optimizer Magnitude
June 5, 2021 -

Hello guys, I want to start by saying that I'm Italian so sorry if my English is bad :D
Moving on, this is my configuration:
Mobo: X570 Aorus Elite
CPU: Ryzen 5800x
Cooler: Noctua NH-D15
Case: Cooler Master H500P Mesh (meh) with an additional Noctua 140mm fan on the top as Intake

I've looked into undervolting in order to get lower temps, I was going on 90C running a MC Cinebench R23, I know that 5800x is a hot boi but those temps were too high for me. (If you want to know the score, I don't have it, I've never ended a run due to reaching 90C)

So I've undervolted with PBO in the bios, setting all cores negative curve with a value of 25 in the Curve Optimizer Magnitude field;
Now I'm on 84C running a MC Cinebench R23, with a score of 15798 and clocks between 4849-4851 Mhz;
On a single-core run I've scored 1603 Pts at 49-51C;

Now I'm curious about 2 things:

  1. I've heard that in MSI Bios every unit in the Curve Optimizer Magnitude field equals to 3 to 5 Millivolts, is It the same in the Aorus Bios?

  2. Someone had the same issues/went through the same procedure? What values Have you put? Did you set the curve for all cores or have you set different values per core(s) ?

Thank you in advance guys <3

So, it's been a little bit more than a couple hours, but here we are.So, for a recap, we started with: pbo undervolt - all cores -25 CB R23 MC = 15798 at 84CCB R23 SC = 1603 at 49-51C First of all, like Ben4425 said, I've checked the cooler and re-applied the thermal paste, using the 5 point method, gaining ~ 2C CB R23 MC = 15889 at 82C CB R23 SC = 1612 at 47-49C -4849 Mhz I checked what cores were the best, so i've set -10 for them and -25 to all the others R23 MC = 15794 at 82C R23 SC = 1593 at 51-53C - 4849 Mhz And then i've tried to lower the PBO Limits, ive started with: PPT: 142 - EDC: 120 - TDC: 95 R23 MC = 15775 at 81C R23 SC = 1605 at 51-53C - 4849 Mhz Then PPT: 130 - EDC: 120 - TDC: 95 R23 MC = 15478 at 81C R23 SC = 1599 at 51-53C - 4849 Mhz With those PBO Limits, i've tried to set the Boost Override to +100mhz, it was useless cause it crashed during the multicore;I've set PPT back to 142, crashed again, set all the PBO Limits back to default, crashed again.I think it depends on the overvolt curve that i did, maybe -10 on the best 2 and -25 on the others it's too much for sustaining the +100mhz I've set the PBO Limits back to PPT: 142 - EDC: 120 - TDC: 95, and Boost Override to +50mhz R23 MC = 15480 at 81C R23 SC = 1610 at 4899Mhz and 55C, with a spike of 68C where the windows scheduler went crazy and started to use other 2/3 cores other then the best two. So, at the end of day, I've decided to stick with this configuration:Curve Optimizer: -10 to the 2 best cores, -25 to the othersPBO Limits: PPT: 142 - EDC: 120 - TDC: 95Boost Override 0 I feel like I'm not losing too much on the MC, I've got one of the best SC scores and the temps were low.The funny thing is that the best scores and temps were obtained with -25 to all cores and default PBO Limits lol. Thank to you all guys for the collaboration, cheers <3 EDIT: viewing the guide posted by Ben4425, and seeing other tutorials, I think we can assume that the value of units in the Curve Optimizer Magnitude field it's the same for every Bios (3 to 5 Millivolts)

5800X PBO curve optimiser help please | Overclockers UK Forums
March 28, 2022 - I got no errors in the log down the bottom left (I assume this is where they should appear?). I then bumped PBO boost override up to 50mHz then 100mHZ with the same -30 and still got no errors in OCCT V10.1.5 but I started getting frequent BSOD crashes in Destiny 2. I dropped curve optimiser down progressively to -10 but still had crashes so I disabled the PBO boost override and now my system is stable after several 4 hour gaming sessions.

ok this is my settings in PBO for now and it works. I can't set even +50 but will try again later. PPT: 142W TDC: 95A EDC: 140A Auto-OC override: 0mhz In curve optimizer I set my best cores to -15 and the other to -20. So far so good. My temp dropped a bit and I'm happy.

Question - Recommend PBO Settings for Ryzen 7 5800x | Tom's Hardware Forum
August 17, 2023 - Each CPU is different, so its really gonna be hard to give a recommendation, Its something you will have to play with, you can play with the EDC, TDC and PPT settings and get cooler temps, but you could handicap the max boost speeds if too low. Curve Optimizer is also one of them things thats going to be different per CPU even if its the same CPU.

r/overclocking on Reddit: 5800x PBO LIMITS and Curve Optimizer advice needed!
October 10, 2022 -

I achieved -30 curve offset per core but I'm indecisive if I should let my 2 best cores feed at stock rather than having a lesser negative offset. Just trying to achieve maximum performance with lower temps. Here's my results and my run on CB23.

Curve Optimizer has been stabled with 24 hours of core cycler, 1 hour of large data set on occt, and left overnight on idle to see if it'll crash.

Pbo limits are running stock at: PPT 142 TDC 95 EDC 140

QUESTIONS:

Would I benefit from my 2 best cores having less of a negative offset?

Will I get a massive gain with tinkering PBO limits?

My setup:

R7 5800x

Noctua NHD15 (2x140) & 1 120m fan

ASUS TUF B550 PLUS GAMING

ram: 3600 16gb (2x8) cl17

Lian Li Lancool 2 mesh

EVGA 3060ti XC

So. im trying to tune my 5800x again...

Seems like i got a potato. Boosts to ~4.8Sc and ~4.6Ac...I can input up to 2ghz on the PBO2 Boost override but after 200mhz nothing changes. Global max is still 5050, some cores touch that but the effective clocks doesn't so i guess it's just streching. The Cpu gets hot (90c) unless i drop the Vcore to about -0.025v, i get higher/same R23 scores for every step down until then (~15000-15500). I know they are supposed to work at that temp, but that seems stupid if i get the same performance for way less wattage and temp. Electricity is expensive nowdays...

Cpu seems to handle ~-30 Co on all cores, maby -28-29 on the two best, but if i drop the Vcore they give me errors way before that.

PPT/TDC/EDC Doesn't seem to matter when i'm optimizing sc, currently running corecycler and try to find the max Co offset on my vcore, i suppose i shoudl lover Vcore until all of them are between -20 and -30, since they max out on stock, meaning they could go to -40-50 if that was an option.

Is this the right way to go? I'we read 10ths of guides but it doesnt click. And Sometimes my changes work and sometimes it just glitches out, having the same options on 2 places int eh UEFI doesn't help either, dunno if i should use the settings under AI Tweaker on Advanced/Amd, Thanks Asus.

Current values on PBO is 120/75/110, but that only comes in to play when i run all core or R23, i'd like to find the core maximums before i start tuning all core.

Also, if i use LLC on Lvl2 or more i just loose performance? Perhaps 100-150 Mhz All core clocks.I have it set to Auto, and CPU and SOC Current are on 110%, i don't think thats a problem when i have PBO limits way under stock.

December 11, 2020 - So yeah some of the 5800X chips pull a lot more so that becomes more difficult to manage. Not sure if a bios update can help here and using PBO and newer updates forcing a lower voltage and frequency through offsets could reduce performance trying to mitigate the higher temps by setting a more aggressive offset value but with a lower clock speed as a result.

r/overclocking on Reddit: 5800x PBO+Curve Optimizer OC help
July 4, 2021 -

Hi, i am quite new to Overclocking and was wondering if anyone could help me with Overclocking my CPU.

In my bios i have set my CPU Clock ratio to 46.00 and my CPU Vcore to 1.25V. My temps on idle are 48-53c and while gaming 60-65c. My CPU is always at 4.6ghz and 1.23-25V now and i dont think that is good for the CPU

I saw people talking about PBO and Curve Optimizer and they were getting better scores and temps.

i was wondering if i did my little manual "oc" right. So i am wondering if someone wants to help me OC my CPU or atleast give tips/advice on how to do it with PBO + Curve Optimizer.

My specs:

CPU: 5800x

Motherboard: x570 aorus elite

RAM: 32gb corsair vengeance pro

GPU: MSI 1070ti

AIO: corsair h150i pro xt

Any help would be appriciated :)

Greetings,

Daan

r/overclocking on Reddit: 5800X PBO settings...?
December 7, 2022 -

Hi everyone,

New owner of 5800X rig here. I made my fair share of investment to make my machine as quiet as possible and noticed that Noctua NH-D15 is good enough to warrant fair headroom for OC before taking off. I was fully aware that 5800X is quite hot out of the box, so I started tweaking nearly instantly with how to tame it - I managed to figure out the following using scattered info on this sub:

  • Curve optimizer per core, all cores at -30 (automatically set by Ryzen Master)

  • PPT/TDC/EDC: 120/80/120

  • Boost override CPU: 200

  • Temperature limit: 85*C (I set my fans curve to be as quiet as possible before 80*C mark, after they linearly scale with temp to 100% at 90*C)

  • FLCK & others - auto

I have not touched any other values to simply prevent myself from doing any damage to my mobo/cpu. Current Cinebench R23 score is 15294 compared to original 14100-ish, machine sustained Prime95 + Furmark for half an hour without being noisy nor any odd behaviors.

My CPU-related specifications:

  • Ryzen 5800X + Noctua NH-D15

  • Gigabyte AORUS ELITE v2 B550 (latest bios)

  • 32GB 3600MHz CL16 Kingston Renegade Black

  • Seasonic PX-750 Platinum

Are there any other things I can try optimizing? Are any of those settings unnecessarily high/low? I do not mind "safe" overclocking, as long as it doesn't mean double digit wattage increases for tiny gains. Thanks!
