Hi guys, I see most people here roll with 59fifties (fitted), I personally been a 9fifty guy since I was a kid. Is there a reason why many of yrl prefer 59fifties, I mean is there an added advantage that I don’t know of?

Both are good, but fitted hats are hard to collect. You may have to try 10 of the same size on before you get the correct one, because they’re hand stitched and they will all fit differently, even though they’re the supposed “same size”. The fitted hats do have a timeless look, but then again so do the snapbacks. They have a nostalgic appeal, and a lot of the rap and rock artists made them famous in the late 80s and early 90’s. They have more street flavor, and they’re much easier to collect. Fitted MLB hats are more popular in the US. Overseas, not as much. Both styles are good, and I have both, but I think I prefer 9Fifty because they’re a little cooler In hot weather. I can adjust with hair style changes and cuts if need be, and when I order online, I automatically know it will fit. It’s literally 90% the same hat as the 59Fifty, with only the back being the difference. Thickness, material, logo thread counts are all the same.

I like them both. My collection is small but growing (probably about 6 caps and a few other New Era hats, winter hats/bucket hat). Most of them are 59fifty and I will give those the edge because they fit well and are a classic cap IMO (plus a lot of the limited runs that I think are cool are not available in 9fifty). However, I have bought a couple of 9fiftys (only 2 now) and will continue to do so for some hats. If you're not looking at the back you won't even notice and it's an option to give to friends/family members to borrow if they go to Yankee games with me and don't have a Yankee hat of their own.

I buy exclusively 59fiftys - I like the high crown and I like authentic on field fitteds, which are 59fiftys, but I work in the heat at work in the summers and sweat a lot so I was looking at a 9Seventy trucker because why not, they look interesting. How do they compare to each other?

I have 9-10 9seventys now. Love them. There’s a few different styles with them, trucker, golf type, cotton and dri fit sort of thing. Really loving them to be honest. Give them a shot, you will love them. Look for the spring training ones as they’re on sale now so it’s easier on the wallet to try.

You should try the spring training 5950s or even the mesh snapbacks. Just as a recommendation since you mentioned you like the look of the 59fifty but want something better for hot weather. I recently bought a spring training 5950 Dodgers hat and use it to go running, hiking, and biking when it's sunny and it's done really well even with a lot of sweat.

I got a complementary New Era 9fifty from my alma mater's football team, and even though I am not a hat guy, I ended up loving it! I'd like to pick up a 59fifty to have some variety, but had a question regarding sizing.
I ran a tape measure somewhat snugly around my head (about the same snugness I like out of this hat,) and ended up at 59cm. This puts me between sizes; 59fifty 7 3/8 is 58.7cm, while the 7 1/2 is 59.6cm. Should I opt for the larger size and count on it "shrinking onto my head" that extra 0.6cm? Or, are 59fifty caps better suited to starting out snug and giving/stretching out 0.3cm?
Also, I do intend on a gentle bending of the brim, and I'm not sure what effect this has on the fit of a 59fifty (if any.)

Go to a store and try a few on to get a better idea of your size. I’m usually a 7 5/8 guy but sometimes they can be snug, especially if I’m between haircuts. Also, they break in and stretch out a little with wear.

Bending the brim makes the hat fit larger, so if you’re not going to keep em flat get it truer to size. That being said, the sizes are hardly uniform at all. It’s pretty frustrating actually. I have dozens of 5950s that are all 7 3/8 and they literally all fit differently. Best bet is try to find it in store and try it on for yourself.
