r/Remodel on Reddit: 5x7 bathroom remodel
January 20, 2025 -

Our home was built in 1956 (pier and beam) and we have a tiny tiny 5’x7’ primary bathroom. We are wanting to remodel to better utilize the space and were were planning on enlarging the shower to be 60”x32” (currently 30”x32”). Does anyone have any experience/inspiration with a bathroom this small? I attached a screenshot of layout options for inspiration but would appreciate any and all opinions before we embark on this adventure.

making the most of a 5x7 bathroom layout?
There may be a regulation requiring a certain amount of space on either side of the toilet. You may have to adjust the location of the shower wall next to the toilet. Other than that possibility, the bathroom looks functional. Is the shower door wide enough? You should do the bathroom with permits and inspections by the local authority.

5x7 full bath too small?
Definitely aim for a no-barrier entrance to the shower. Looking at the above layout I found, I'd definitely switch the sink and toilet -- I'd want to place the toilet between the sink vanity and the wall so handrails could be on both sides.

A 5x7 (now 6x7?) standard layout would look just like the bath opposite this one in the drawing - 30" tub, 30" for toilet, and 24" vanity, all along one wall. Click to expand... Thanks for your reply.

r/DesignMyRoom on Reddit: Design Help Needed: Small 5x7 Bathroom
October 13, 2020 -

Hey there, single guy here desperately needing some design help from those of you more talented.

I've got a small 5x7' bathroom off my main hallway, it's my main bath with a new tub. Due to the small size, I don't have a lot to work with.

Bathroom Layout and Pics - https://imgur.com/a/pB3YNXN

Look I'm open to different looks, was thinking nice elegant hotel/modern.

Budget No constraints, just want to be happy with end product.

Vanity - No wider than 24" and will likely have to go right in the corner. It can be wall-mounted as the water lines enter from the back.

Flooring - I've picked up these 12"x24" floor tiles from Lowes. https://low.es/3jD7x6x They are grayish with a big of texture.

Shower - I will be installing a 12"x12" shower niche in the wall of the shower for shampoo/etc

Would love to get some ideas on what tiles to use on the shower walls, on bathroom walls (tile, paint colors, etc) and vanity ideas.

I understand this is free advice and I get what I pay for, so thank you greatly in advance :)

i am not sure what they are called, but i installed a vanity in my condo (similar size to yours) the sink bowl extends past the cabinet... it gives the illusion of more floor space, you do lose a little bit in storage - but totally worth it... I have neighbors who have the same floor plan use my bathroom and swear mine is bigger... LOL worth checking out

Is there a floor and decor near you? If so, I highly suggest going there. They have people that will help you co-ordinate your bathroom tile. Tile colors online are very different than in person. There are varying shades of all colors as well as "warm" neutrals (grays for example) and "cool" neutrals. You really want to stick to one or another and, in addition, you have 2, maybe three different tile colors to coordinate. Stuff to consider: For a spa-like look, do large format tiles. Tile to the ceiling. A floating vanity will have a little less space than one to the floor. A vanity with short legs will be a pita to keep clean underneath (mine are always built-in just for this reason). A vessel sink will allow more room in the vanity HOWEVER there usually is no room for soap/lotion/your razor. I don't like them, period. You might want to consider a vanity that has a matching cupboard for over the toilet for additional storage. Consider a shower shield (with a door) rather than a curtain. It gives a cleaner look. https://dreamline.com/bathtub-doors/dreamline-aqua-uno-34-in-frameless-hinged-tub-door_shdr-3534586-01.html This one opens, there are stationary ones if you're brave enough to stand in the tub when you turn on the water. Note that since it's glass, yes, you'll need to squeegie it, but it's not very big and should take you about 30 seconds in the AM. Get an led mirror. Choose a very high lumen if you don't want additional light around/above the mirror. Have a really good exhaust fan. Make sure all your finishes match (faucets, lights, shower shield hinges, vanity handles. Schluter system. Be diligent that it's installed correctly. Otherwise your tile job is doomed.

I'd expand the bathroom into hallway swallowing the linen closet and incorporate a linen cabinet inside.
