Hi IntecIT, The Dell Inspiron N5110 might emit a series of beeps during start-up if the LCD cannot display errors or problems. The 8 beeps on this model indicate an LCD failure. However, I suggest you to try connecting a known good external monitor and check if it works (If available). Do reply with your findings. Answer from DELL-Kiran K on dell.com

Moish, you are right. 8Beeps is usually a LCD or cable failure. Try this first : · "If the LCD on the system does not show any display, here are some basic steps that you can perform: · Remove the battery and AC Adapter from the laptop and press the power button down for about 10-15 seconds to release flea power. · Power up the system and then press the F12 key during the boot process to get to the Boot Menu, if you are able to see the display. · It may be necessary to repeatedly press the key during the start-up process. · Use the up and down arrow keys to select on the menu and press the Enter key. · Or · Hold down the Fn (function) key · Power on the notebook · You should then see the Dell logo screen with the message 'Diagnostic boot selected' in the top corner. · You can then release the keys · While the LCD BIST test runs, the LCD is operating on its own, free of the video controller, which may be discrete (a video card) or on board (on the system board). The test allows you to distinguish an LCD panel problem from a problem with the controller. If the colors are displayed across the screen without a problem, then the issue is not with the LCD." from here. Should you have a broken LCD, I would contact Dell and talk to them about the warranty issues. It is possible that they still honor the original warranty. If not, then the cost of repair will be yours, but at this point you really have nothing to lose. Hope this helps, good luck.

THEY JUST OPEN LAPTOP AND HEAT UP GPU ON MOTHERBOARD.. The same problem i found in my laptop dell n5010. · 8 beeps has many possibilities, check following · 1) cable of display if found loose , disconnected then tight or connect in socket · 2) if cable is connected well, try external monitor, if it works on external monitor, display is dead, replace it · 3) if external monitor not working, and system is running but no display then GPU ball connection with motherboard are melt and disconnected. it can be fixed by various reflow methods · 4) if not working above there may be motherboard failure, ask expert and replace if need. · sometimes heat sink pipe (heat pipe ) stop working and so heat can not pe transfer from motherboard to atmosphere, so overheating and motherboard failure such as 8 beeps, disconnected GPU is resulted, heat pipe used by dell and other company have very long life so , 90 to 95% cases have not problem of heat sink pipe. · I REPAIRED MY DELL N5010 WITH SAME PROBLEM....ITS GPU IS OVERHEATED AND BALL(SOLDERING JOINTS FROM GPU WITH MOTHERBOARD ) MELT AND CONNECTION BETWEEN GPU AND MOTHERBOARD LOST. BUT AS DELL PROGRAMMER SETS 8 BEEP FOR BLANK OR BLUE DISPLAY. LAPTOP SHOWING DEAD DISPLAY OR DISPLAY WIRE/CABLE PROBLEM INDICATION. MAIN CAUSE IS THE MINI/MICRO GAP BETWEEN GPU AND HEAT SINK PAD.. HEAT SIN PAD DID NOT IN CONTACT WITH GPU CHIP. SO HEAT DID NOT TRANSFER AND OVERHEATING melt ball(SOLDERING JOINTS FROM GPU WITH MOTHERBOARD ) so connection between GPU and motherboard was lost.. i set my GPU by heating with proper way. do not try yourself without guideline. · Also u can install software speedfan(free download google it), so you can run cooling fan full speed for continuous heat throw from GPU. because dell programmed is set to run on temperature sensor. battery will consume power but it is safe for overheating in such case, and you need to set speed manually every time when starting laptop or after sleep mode, otherwise fan will not run and motherboard will damaged that can not repaired. · my laptop is 5 year old, still its running good. dell products are good.

8 Beeps is definitely to do with the monitor not functioning correctly. Since you haven't mentioned this yet, is the monitor physically broken or just 'not working'? If it's not physically broken, it probably just has a loose cable. Judging by the amount of posts about this it could be a common issue with this model as you can see below.

I found a Dell Community thread regarding this topic with a couple methods mentioned that you could try if you feel up to it.

Here are some of the suggestions users have come up with in that thread:

Eight beeps means a display failure.

Since the external monitor works, you know it's not a fault with the video card.

With the notebook off, hold down the "D" key and power the notebook on. If you get solid colors on the screen, then you know the LCD is good. I would look for a problem with the video cable. Just resently, someone found that the front bezel was creating a problem with the video cable.

Here's another:

I encountered the same issue. The laptop had fallen from a table approximately 2-feet above the floor. Upon subsequently attempting to start the N5110 Dell laptop, I saw a white screen and heard 8 beeps. The screen did not change from all-white, and the beeps would resume approximately every 15-seconds.

My solution was to open the computer so that I could see the motherboard. Watch any of a number of videos on youtube for guidance if you are unfamiliar with the technique for properly disassembling and reassembling the N5110 chassis. I removed the CMOS battery from its case on the left-front of the motherboard, After a minute I placed the same battery back into the socket. Taking care to reconnect the three electrical ribbons that run from the motherboard to the keyboard, the battery was replaced and the start button was pushed.

A boot notice appeared on the screen that the computer had been improperly shut-down, and I had the option of restoring to a previous point, or starting Windows normally. I selected the normal start, and after a longer than usual boot, the laptop returned to full functioning.

I don't know if the ol' CMOS battery trick will work in all instances of the dreaded 8-beep error, but pulling the battery and replacing it causes the system to perform a power reset. I wish you similar success should you encounter this issue.

And finally, an entire Dell Community tag dedicated to the N5110 White Screen 8 Beeps issue. This tag only has one post.

If you feel up to opening up your laptop the Dell Service Manual should provide you with enough information on how you can check the monitor cable.

My latitude keeps emitting an annoying sound. What I tried is super quick fix and worked for me. Here's how.

  1. Go dollar store and get an ear-phone (I got a mono-ear-bud )
  2. Plug it into ear phone jack on Latitude
  3. Beep stops (not during boot up but after the boot)
  4. Ear buds still emit annoying beep, so just cut off the bud (all you need is just a plug )
  5. Beep goes away!!

Looks as a default, Latitude mutes every sounds if it was plugged a ear phone in its connector. You can still use audio if you have USB audio system (USB doesn't have annoying beep.)
