Suggest a good tv show or a few movies in spanish?
Narcos is probably like 50-50, so I wouldn't suggest having it be your sole resource for learning Spanish. A show I really like is club de cuervos on Netflix. It's a Mexican show that is actually quite good and teaches you many Mexican modismos. My personal experience with television shows in Spanish is that they usually are not very high quality, mostly very soap opera-y. They are entertaining, but if very high quality is what you are looking for, I would check out cinema (not to say that there aren't ANY good Spanish shows) In terms of movies, it depends on what you are looking for. some movies in Spanish that are among some of the best movies I have ever seen are:
Vivir es fácil con los ojos cerrados - amazing. Spanish movie that won a Goya for best picture.
Diarios de motocicleta- movie about Che Guevara's journey across South America. Not really political, and super fun and interesting. It has Gael Garcia Bernal and the accents are Argentinian.
El laberinto del fauno- Spanish movie by Guillermo del Toro. Amazing film and was super popular in the US. The accents are Spanish.
El secreto en sus ojos- argentine detective film. I think it won the Oscar for best foreign film.
También la lluvia- great movie about the Bolivian water wars. There are mostly Spanish and Bolivian accents here. Also has Gael Garcia!!
Relatos salvajes- amazing argentine movie that is a compilation of interesting short stories with an overarching theme of revenge and violence. Won the Goya for best picture and was nominated for best foreign film at the oscars. One of my favorites.
Arráncame la vida - a good Mexican romantic period piece. It's probably the worst on this list, but still an interesting and great movie.
Amores perros- a gritty Mexican movie by Inárritu ( who just won best picture at the academy awards for the revenant). One of the best Spanish language films and also has Gael Garcia !!
Y tu mamá también- Mexican movie by Alfonso Cuaron who won best director for Gravity at the oscars. This movie was super popular in the states and is a great road trip movie about two Mexican teenagers and a Spanish woman.
Machuca- a great Chilean movie about a friendship between a upper class kid in Santiago and a kid from the slums during the political turmoil before and after the 1973 coup in chile. A great intro into the infamous Chilean accent.
No - an amazing Chilean movie about the "no" ad campaign during the 1988 Chilean plebiscite to remove Pinochet from office. A great and funny movie that also is a fascinating look into life during the last days of the dictatorship. It was nominated for best foreign language film for the oscars. It also stars Gael Garcia.
There are tons of great movies in Spanish. I would say Mexico, Argentina, and Spain tend to have the best, but Chile and others have some good ones as well. I tried to include movies from a variety of regions so you can get accustomed to some weird accents. A source for finding great Spanish movies are the Goya awards which are pretty much just the oscars for movies in Spanish.
