You miss the days of the mid budget movie then, and when rom coms were profitable in theaters. Also I have seen plenty of great films shot digitally, but a lot of romcoms now have no visual craft behind them. I mean look at the opening night sequences in Pretty Woman next to anything in that Ashton Kutcher-Reese Witherspoon Netflix romcom. Also the removal of second revenue source (physical media) is also to blame for this, since streaming has helped kill physical media. Which is even more ironic since streaming is the only place you’ll find romcoms now More on reddit.com

Is it just survivorship bias? The ones that are still being watched are the good ones. There were plenty of bad romcoms in the 80s and 90s, but they sank without trace and are harder to find on streaming/disc these days. More on reddit.com
