Pretty sure you use their present name like "Elliot Page when he performed in Juno". You can probably add "performed in Juno pre transition". If I'm wrong, someone please correct me. I believe to be proper, you view their past through the present. More on reddit.com

I don't want to dead name or insult anyone, but if you're referring to Elliot playing a female character, which pronouns are proper? She as the character but he as the actor? I realize "they" works as a catch-all but I'm looking for actual semantics here.
What about roles where they were still credited as Ellen? Do you say "Elliot Page credited as Ellen" or can you refer to them as Ellen in the context of the role? Or would that be dead naming?
And again, I'm just a dumb guy trying to make sure I don't bite my tongue here so thank you for your patience :)

He as the actor is correct, fine to talk about a specific character with the character's name/pronouns. You could say "Elliott Page credited as Ellen" to make sure you are 100% clear and then go on to talk about Elliot and he, but honestly in this case you probably don't even need to do that because it's pretty obvious (a famous transition, first name is close and last name is unchanged).
