24 November 2024 - STEPHEN FRY APPRECIATION THREAD Following popular British TV Host Philip Schofield’s retirement for Unknown Reasons, now seemed a good time to repost a Tribute Thread to Schofield’s fellow National Treasure Stephen Fry.
I keep seeing Stephen Fry being called a “genius” - why do people think that?
So I know a guy who worked with him several times as a cameraman, and according to him Steven Fry has a near-photographic memory combined with insomnia. So he reads a lot, and remembers a lot, just doesn't sleep so much. Almost any topic Steven is knowledgeable about apparently, no idea if the genius thing is true but it certainly sounds like he at least knows a lot. He was also a pleasure to work with, and very friendly with the crew. At least in one guy's opinion - and that guy is incredibly grouchy. More on reddit.com
Another celeb dissapointment: Stephen Fry
Given how much he continues to support Rowling and umm'd and ahh'd about "both sides" I can't say this is a surprise. Still sad though. More on reddit.com

Stephen Fry called a 'disappointment' for saying he no longer supports Stonewall. - (due to its support of trans and Intersex communities)
Typical wealthy cis white guy. "i won't inconvenience myself for others"
That he's gay is irrelevant, champagne gays are some of the absolute WORST for this "me me me" shit after all.
Yeah he SHOULD know better, but the fact is he doesn't care. He got his, screw anyone else. And from his perspective, Rowling and her stuff is a gravy train he's not willing to get off of.

Stephen Fry Is Wilde at Heart | The New Yorker
17 November 2025 - Now sixty-eight, Fry has been a household name in Britain for four decades, though it might be more accurate to call him a household voice—his resonant baritone being instantly recognizable everywhere from “Harry Potter” audiobooks to commercials for Sainsbury’s supermarkets. When, this fall, he appeared in a celebrity version of the hit reality show “The Traitors,” his fellow-participants referred to him, earnestly, as “national treasure Stephen Fry.”

No shade to the guy, he seems a decent man, certainly entertaining, but what qualifies him as a genius? Does he have a novel or a scientific theory I’m unaware of?
